G'day All

I'm after more assistance as usual, please...

Please have a look at my page, and look at the update for reference.

Apologies for the poor qulity webcam pics...

I have remodelled the axles a bit, and I have mounted the steering servo. I have read about servo savers, but I don't really have any idea what they are, and whats involved in them. Do you guys make your own, or buy them?
As this is a super budget truck, I have used the Tamiya spare parts I have in a box. Thus I have used the little ball joints for use with the steering and 4 link setup.
Do you think it would work how I have mounted them for the 4 link suspension?

Any input, critcism or slagging graciously received!! Very Happy

Thanx
Randal

See that thing on your servo , the red thing , its a servo saver.
All it does is take the brunt of a crash or bump so that the gears in your servo don't bust.
Try to keep your four link as equal as possible. On your rear diff on the top links i would try to bring a bracket out from there and mount the ball out on it.That wat you would be able to keep your links a bit more equal.
Looking really good

Well that solves the servo saver thing... Thanx Russell Smile

When you say have the links equal, you mean over the top of each other? That is so the motor wont tilt much, or for another reason?

Thanx very much

daRangie, it's looking good.

Front steering and servo all looks fine. You may find that once you get the links mounted may need to space the balls out from your framework a bit to stop the links binding on them, especially those top ones above the servo. As your axle moves/twists up it looks like the suspension links may interfere with the aluminium servo mount.

As for the rear, it looks like it may twist the axle as it articulates. What Russell was trying to say is that you need to look very carefully at keeping the top and bottom links the same length and rotating in the same arc. By triangulating the bottom links the way you have you have brought their pivot point forward making the top links longer than the bottoms. This will cause the wheels to move closer or further away from the chassis as you articulate. The best way to combat this would be to triangulate the top links as well by bringing them together at the chassis. This will minimise the axle twisting as it articulates.

Keep it going though....it looks very interesting.

Thanx for your input Adman!! Smile
I'll try and implement your suggestions...
I see your point with the servo mount getting in the way of the links... I'll redo that bit, and rethink the rear mounts.
I'm finding it difficult to understand the whole 4 link movement from static pics... I'll get it together soon though... Smile

Thanx

The only real way to understand the 4-link movement is to try it. Set it up with no shocks and move it around, make changes to the link length or mouning location and observe the differences.

Okay people, thanx to your help and some good pics of the MudCow I have done the front 4 link. It doesn't have a huge amount of articulation, because of the dodgy parts I am using as well as design, but it should be enough for now... I just have to get the springs mounted, which I hope won't effect the artic much.

Once again, apologies for the dodgy webcam pics...

Now to do the back...

Thanx
