After reading some of these postings, it is apparent that most of the folks posting here are from outside the US. Would any of you have some specs on the diesel engines that are available in Tacomas where you live? I drive a lot of miles every day and am very interested in swapping my gas engine for a diesel if it is possible and at all affordable. I love my truck...just needs more power and torque.

I am pretty sure our Gen 4 is not the same a a Tacoma.
Is anyone absolutly sure that they are the same rig??
From what i can work out the Tacoma is a totaly different beast. The rear quarters are nothing like the rear quarters on ours. The front is very similar.

Found the Toyota of Austrailia site. A new HiLux looks like a four door Tacoma just from the photo. Engine options appear to be the same as the US save for the Diesels which are not available from the factory here. I am still very interested in transplanting a diesel powerplant into my truck if possible. Just need more info. Cool

I thought the tacoma's shared hilux running gear, but not body, and the Toyota Tundra is the big truck, competition to F-Trucks. These ones would possibly share 80 and 100 series running gear. Motors would be different spec, and they are probably all auto.

Are most of the Toyotas diesel in Austrailia, or is it closer to 50/50? The number of miles I drive and the limited 4 wheeling that I do a diesel would be just the ticket.

a 3 litre turbo complete wiring, every thing needed to run, starter, alternator etc will set you back about $4500 AUS. (2500USD)

the things are fast, and make awesome power, but for the money i think there would be a better option for you.

I can probably get you a complete motor and box cheaper than that, email me sikfj40@hotmail.com
