Just as an addition to this one- I just got told a really easy way to remove the retainer if you dont have access to a press, and it works. Put the shaft in a soft jaw vice with the backing plate against the benchtop, or the shaft underneath the retainer supported by a block of timber, and then hit the retainer with a cold chisel until theres a 2mm deep cut in the retainer, rotate the shaft 180 degrees and hit the other side till its 2mm deep. then use the "shade tree mechanic" technique described in the link, and the retainer will drop off, then the bearing and backing plate will follow it Very Happy Cool
