Just thought i would start a thread to get any other ideas on judging and running a point score series for the radio control rock crawler events.
We would like to start either a pointscore or at least a monthly comp for the meetings we have been having at lake Parramatta.
If any of you have any ideas or suggestions please enter them here or forever hold your peice.
We already have a rough idea what it will be based on which is full scale rockcrawling, but would appreciate any imput or ideas |

Russell,
I think that we should hold some of the point score rounds in kempsey! as it is roughly half way between sydney and Queensland!
I think that we should have roughly 8 or 9 events spreadout thru the year!

The only real classes should be Open or Locked diffs but because the modifications to lock a diff aren't necessarily costly, they are open to everyone. I don't see a need to have classes, and to proove it I'll run my leaf sprung Mounty.
My ideas as follows:
Courses maybe should have a time limit for DNF.
100 points for completed course with progressive points along the way. Points taken off for reverse, rollover, rollover requiring putting truck on it's feet, touching or knocking over peg. |

I'm thinking about this...
I don't think that there should be any classes as modding a truck really isn't that expensive and if you lose one round, you will have a good incentive to improve your truck (or your driving) for the next.
No limits on mods = no limits on innovation.
Courses should be limited in width and line so that super mega big trucks simply can't fit thru. THis will be the way that truck design can be controlled, not thru a whole pile of complicated modification rules.
By the same token, courses should be tight and technical so that high powered rigs like emaxx's that rely on grunt, not finesse cannot dominate. This is a crawling comp after all. |

What about events? Will it just be the one course like Woodpecker or more like Tuff Truck or Nissan Trials.
Maybe a Show and Shine as well, and a Truck Pull and and a Travel ramp.
I do think there should be Electric and Nitro classes though, I know nitro doesn't wheel anywhere near as well as electric but I would be fun to watch them try. |

I dont know how well we would go including nitro stuff ,only because the area's that we would be visiting would not look too gratiously at a horde of noisey nitro guzzling monster truckers recking the serenity of a local park or forest trail. There is also the possibilty of one taking off and hitting a bystander, who would pay insurance, elictric stuff is safer ,quiter and more fun.
As far as the other aspects like the show and shine andtravel ramp go there a great idea ,although i dont think my rig looks good enough for a show and shine ,Bumpy is too old and haggard now
I would have to have a couple of different trucks for each event ,what a shame that would be.I dont think the boss would agree, hey darl. |

OK i was just on rcmt forum looking at there rockcrawl competion which they held just recently.
A TXT won it by the way.
They used a timeed race event were each cometitor raced through a certain trail which was marked off with cones.
The fasted time won, a time penalty was given to those who flipped or touched a cone or whatever but to win you had to go through as fast as possible.
I think this type of set up is getting into racing again and can only lead into E-Maxx driving styles and racing (touring cars and buggies ) mentallity
What do you think |

How about the opposite, Have a time limit for a course, say 5 mins for the sake of argument, the truck that competes the course in as close to 5 mins as possible with out a stop of more than say 4-5 secs. If they stop for longer they have a either time taken from them or points added. So that puts it back to the skill of the driver and set up of the truck rather than who can floor the throttle the quickest. Also have time taken or points added for assistance, hitting a cone etc. The winner at the end of the day could be the driver with the highest et or lowest points. |

Where would a 2wd monster truck such as a stampede or even a stadium thunder fit in ? Because it aint 4wd I may be the only the competitor with a 2wd but it may bring newcomers into the sport, because not everyone can afford a txt1 or mod clod. I hope I haven't opened a can of worms. BTW the diff is now locked. |

Ok, This is my proposal. Do with it what you will.
1. 3 Minute time limit per truck per course (subject to change)
2. The lowest score at the end of the day wins.
3. Most points that can be scored on a obstacle = 50 points
4. DNF = 50 points
5. Outside assistance for rollovers = 20 points
6. Hit a flag/bunting/peg = 10 points
7. Drive outside the course = 15 points
8. No forward progress for 10 seconds = 2 points
9. Reversing = 2 points ( plus stopping points)
10. Rollover and continue without assistance = 10 points
11. Slowest time to complete the obstacle without going over the time limit to be the tie breaker.
I think that should just about do it. Please feel free to comment. |

Thats pretty close to what we had planned on with a few alterations here and there .
The times and penalties are going to be a bit different but we want to keep it as close to the real rock crawling and tuff truck rules as possible without getting too technical. |
