This one hasn't really got a rating guys. All they've got on their flyer is "Hard option at each checkpoint for experienced 4wdrivers".
So, I would assume that means the run would be easy/medium sort of driving, medium/hard checkpoints, with a few extreme checkpoints thrown in for the serious boys.
P*ssed off, my ute wont be there. Sponsers have it for two weeks doing all my roll bars and tray work.
Should be a farken awesome run. |

Big Red, just rock up to the start mate. Just turn up, pay the entry and sign-on. Try to be there by about 5:45pm, because there may be penalties for late sign-on. I'm not sure on that. There will be a drivers briefing aprrox 10 minutes before the first car is set off. (Hopefully around 6-6:15pm).
It looks as though I might be going after all. But in a navigators seat. For those of you that know Alec Howie in our club (Grumpy Gramps in the little red zook with flames), I might be in with him. For those of you that don't know him, he's 73 yrs old, been 4wding for only 3 yrs, and rolls his car at least twice every time he goes out. The guy is absolutely nuts. I can't wait.... |

The morning after. 8)
It was a good run from what I saw. Unfortunately, I didn't end up actually competing as Tony Ryan asked if I could give him a hand to run his checkpoint. There was 69 cars signed on with a good mixture of cars ranging from standard through to full competition level trucks.
Checkpoint 1 was a few little jump-ups out of a water hole just off the side of Mt Lindsay Hwy. From what I hear, not too many cars drove the hard option. Checkpoint 2 was again more jump-ups, but this time not out of water. A few more drove the hard option here than on CP1. Although there were a few cars that realised after their three attempts, that the vehicle goes better in fourwheel drive. Checkpoint 3 was under the bridge off Johnston Rd. Not quite sure what they had to do here as Tony and I raced on by this one to get to our CP. Maybe a competitor could shed some light on this one, Big Red? Nick? Bubs? 83 Lux? Checkpoint 4 was just a water crossing with a slippery little climb out. Nothing too difficult, well, not when Tony and I came through. But we were also on 37" Claws and twin lockers. By all reports, most came through here well. Checkpoint 5 was the last and also my CP. A choice of two hills. The left one, medium (which turned out to be a highway), and the right one, hard. At a guess, there would have been 75% of the field had a go at the hard option. Of that group, 50% of them drove it. Most on first attempt. By the end of the night, it was very challenging as the wheel ruts were very deep and every car diffed out on it. I was convinced it was undrivable by the end, until Al Tierney came through as sweep car and drove it like there was no hill there. Pity he was an official and not competing. From my CP, they had a small section of map to do including another board section, and then onto the finish line. Finished under the power lines at Browns Plains with Norm and Kellie Walters having an awesome setup of food, drinks and even a tv and video setup in the back of a ute with endless 4B videos playing. I think I got to the finish line about 1:00am. The scores were tallied and the prestentation had at about 2:00am. First place went to some guys that drove down from Maryborough for the run in a GQ wagon, nearly scoring clean throughout the whole run. Second was Shane (Big Red) in his Nissan ute, and I missed who got third, as I was helping to pack up all the gear. There was trophies and also prizes for all the placegetters. Things like Hi-Lift jacks, clutch vouchers, snatch straps, tyre repair kits, and a lot of Nissan merchandise. A good night as had by all. I'd like to thank Tony Dodds, Norm Walters, Tony Ryan and Al Tierney for putting on an awesome run. I'd also like to especially thank Tony Ryan for giving me his passenger seat for the night. Thank you to all that turned up.
On behalf of the organisers, a big thank you to all their sponsers, Fourbys.com.au, Direct Clutch Services, Team Green Gas and Mechanical, Metro Nissan, and others.
Once again, congratulations to Big Red on his second place. A big effort for an unlocked vehicle. |

checkpoint three : you drove across the creek and then turned left through some deep clay ruts and then on to an extremely hard right hand turn which had the rear right hand wheel about a metre higher than the rest of the wheels as it cut across the corner of the bank.
then it was a short distance through a cutting to a steep uphill climb with a ledge at the top to get the wheels airbound
I was one of the ones who failed miserably on checkpoint 1 but even flat out in third didn't get me up, the tyres were still spinning as we slid back to the bottom. :(
checkpoint five was a goodun, tony said it hed been quite a while since anyone made the hard option and we were nearly the last ones through as we had started the night dead last.
We had a great night and were very surprised we got second as we failed on no 1 but we did get all the rest of the hard ones
We won a tyre repair kit, patrol hat and a trophy.
BTW that rig of nicks looks awesome with the bob job and big meat, he has good taste in colour as well
