After talking about it for ages I've finally fitted Genie extractors and a 2.5 inch performance system to the Jack. What I mainly was after was improved highway performance and a note to better match the look of the Jack. While the Jack now sounds pretty beefy and cool, the performance is a little disappointing as there is little if any improvement in acceleration.

I must admit that I went into this a little bit rushed and havent matched it to a high flow filter so is this the likely thing holding it back? Or would the Jack just need a good tune up as the dynamics would have changed...

Any info/advice woud be appreciated...

Thanks,

Noel

you may have gained more power but it could be at the top of the rev range.
remove the air filter for a quick squirt, if it improves heaps then fit a better filter, if not, stick with what youve got.
then get it tuned .

Just took the Jack for a run minus the filter (which did look pretty clogged mind you) and it is improved. So I'll be looking around for a K&N/Finer filter or similar to slot in to the existing holder.

Cheers,

dino here
i had a unifilter on the paj and a bloke i met with the same model as me said that his high flow filter decreased his fuel economy so now he has the normal paper air filter in.
he said that because you get more air flow the ecu dumps more fuel to compinsate.
i have got the stock filter in, to see if my fuel economy changes.

just food for thought

Thanks Dino,

I will keep that in mind.

I have locaated a finer filter to fit into the factory assembly (Part number 534 004 - for the record) which seems to be the same part on most Isuzu fourbies. Just waiting to hear back about price and availability from opposite lock. Not too worried about price, genuine air filters for the Jack can be up to $72.00!

Dazz,

Have you heard of any comparisons between the various types of filters? Why did you go for the K&N? How much are you paying for your K&N and who sells them? I still havent heard back from OL about the Finer filter (I think they must have written my number down wrong)... Confused

Noel,
I was just woundering what sort of exhaust system you are using. I too have fitted extractators (lukey) but only have them leading into the original pipes. My jack is a little older than yours and i was very pleased with the extra grunt picked up from the new outlets. And roughly also how much did u pay for the 2 1/2" and muffler etc..???

cheers,
Greazy

Greazy,

Couldnt give you a specific brand or anything, but got the package from Midland exhaust which is part of the Quickfit chain. I didn't shop around, as I was just keen to get it over and done with after wanting to do it for ages. Therefor I dont know if it was a good price or not.
Package included Genie extactors, new cat, super turbo muffler, hotdog, 2.5" alumnised tube and all clamps etc... $1270.00
Was the first Jack they had done and the guy said it was a bugger of a job.
He actually had to slightly lower one of the cross-members to fit the extractors, but hopefully shouldnt make much of a difference offroad...

Greazy, I just remembered what the breakdown was for the extractors and exhaust system. $950 for extractors and $320 for the 2.5" system fitted... Must be that bourbon we were talking about. Laughing

Yeah I've got an article on fitting Genie headers with a 2.5" sports system on a 3.0 V6 Paj.
They dyno tested it at a whopping 4Kw power increase for around $1000 !!!! I think they mentioned a 20% fuel economy increase which is total crap.
I think the Jap exhaust manifolds are pretty efficient from the factory so there's not a lot to be gained and that would be mainly top end.

Was a bit worried about damaging the air flow meter with a finer/ uni filter. Seems the oil dosn't stay in the filter. And as the A/F meter is a hot wire type it can easily become contaminated causing rich mixtures.
K&N seems to suspend the oil in the filter better and they are the only company who actually lists a filter for the Frontera.
They are available from Rocket Industries or through Repco.
The filter cost me $150 trade with filter cleaner and oil....

Just fitted the K&N filter to the F'terra. The differance is like chalk and cheese. Even though the original filter was fairly blocked, it feels like power has increased by around 10+%. Don't know about economy yet and will run it up on the dyno at work to see if it produces more power.
This is a panel filter that fits in the standard airbox..

Cool Dazz!

I was holding off on the filter til I heard what the final verdict was from you. I'll put my order in with Repco this week...
