Holden fuel subsidy

Holden's executive director of sales and marketing Alan Batey said the fuel price cap would ease the pain of petrol and diesel prices.

“We will provide this cap across all segments to ensure the benefits are as widely available as possible, given that fuel prices impact all drivers regardless of the size of their car,'' Mr Batey said.

New Holden customers will be given a Holden 99c fuel cap debit card to purchase fuel for up to 20,000 kilometres.

In most cases, within 48 hours of a fuel purchase the customer's nominated bank account will be debited to the value of 99c a litre purchased.

Not a bad idea to lure customers in. I've been tossing up whether to go for a Dual Cab ute, maybe the Colarado is a better option now

Impressive marketing. Will make people look past the fuel consumption of some of the larger cars. After a few quick calcs it equates to just under $3000 savings over 20k kms assuming u drive the v8 manual and are paying $2.00/L for fuel.

Savings are less for lower fuel consumptions and of course lower fuel costs.

When buying a new car for most though I think fuel costs are a small part of the equation when you consider depreciation, insurance etc.

Interesting marketing tactic, but for a Commodore V6 that might do 12L/100km, that's not much more than $1500 dependent on fuel prices.

Wouldn't they be spewing if fuel shot to $4/L early next year!

It's not really that much of a saving, it's just cleaver marketing.

I'd be having a close look at what incentives they have available.

example you'll probably find that you get either option 1 or 2

you can buy a car at $29,990 retail less discount of $XXX

or

you can buy a car at $29,990 retail with a fuel cap thats not really worth much at all (15ltrs/100km $1.60 saves you only $1,830 over 20,000km)

my VE does around 9/100 on the highway..... around 10 combined...... 11 if i give is some right boot Very Happy

Last Jan i drove to the Gold Coast with 5 adults and so much damn luggage i couldn't fit another 50 cent piece in the boot and i averaged 10.3 for the trip.

So for the average car, the savings would be less.

I do bout 30,000 a year just on the work gig..

of course it is good marketing. I can't see it being a deal maker for most people but if you were shopping for one of their products it would be a nice little bonus as long as you had done your research on prices with and without the deal

Ha I worked out that if I worked every weekday of the year I would only do 1820km to get to and from work (7km round trip x 260days) haha.

I must do a lot of pointless driving as I am filling up every two weeks and I should be able to stretch that out to 10 if I was just goin to work and back Very Happy

Then trade it in after 2 years.

And how are they going to work it out? A fuel card? Whats to stop you filling up other cars? Or syphoning it out and selling it Laughing

I dare say they'd have a cap based on the EPA/ADR fuel figures issued for the vehicle.

Ford have a similiar rebate atm with the territory, $2000 free fuel from ford to be used I think within 2 years.

I think this is a better rebate than that offered by Holden, unless we start paying $4.00 a litre

It also puts a bit of responsibility back on the manufacturers for the efficiency of their product. If every car company had to pay a percentage of the fuel (imagine the levies and tax WE pay, being paid by the car maker) then they would have extra incentives to deliver more fuel efficient vehicles. (whether this is better than the usual market forces, I dunno)
