did an oil change today on the 'new' GQ, changed engine oil and put two new oil filters on.

I bought 10 litres of 15-40 oil and it took all of it but the dipstick shows it is still down.

as I dont have a workshop manual, can someone tell me how much oil it holds including filters

thanks

11 Litres for me GQ td42.

I find the best way to do it is to buy 10 Litres of say Penrite (I love the stuff) and buy a 1 Litre of Moreys Oil stabiliser.

This normally fills to spot on the 'full' mark for mine.

The good thing about doing it this way is not having to sit with 9 L of oil till next service, and not forking out as much coin, I think the Moreys is about 10 or 12 bucks, the good thing is that if you've got any left over you can put in diffs, g/box or t/case.

Cheers, Dano.

thanks guys.

next question - I let the oil drain for quite some time as well as changing both the oil filters. Put 10l of fresh oil and new filters on and the damn oil is went as dark as the old stuff straight away. I know its better as the oil pressure is better, but how can I get the new oil to stay 'cleaner' longer.

would it pay to use an additive to flush the oil system first and then ad the new oil and filters.....or just leave it Rolling Eyes

I ususally leave mine over night..........that said, the oil is still black in about 10 minutes of driving. Although I had never been bothered to flush it on my truck, it would seem like a good idea, to be sure of getting rid of all the crappy old sludge.

I think its just a diesel thing.........especially with the td42.

Dano.

I dont use any oil stabiliser (was told by an engine builder not to bother) as a really good oil shouldn't need any extra additives. I have been using Penrite HPR 20w 60 (i change my weights depending on winter/summer), and just did a service on sunday.

I always use some sort of engine oil desludging/flushing consentrate before i drop the oil, and generally let it drain for 5-6 hours straight from a hot motor.

I was half tempted to buy 10L of cheap safeway oil and do a 20min drive with some more desludging concentrate to remove/dilute the leftover shitty black oil - but i couldn't be fagged. I just did a normal service.

I'm afraid diesels and black engine oil is just something you have to live with.

Coxy

Yea, read somewhere that the old indirect injetcion motors dirty up the oil quick, thats why new Di, common rail motors often have longer oil change intervals.

I just rechecked my oil as it only took 10L last weekend, and its spot on. It might be cause i've changed brands of oil filters and they dont hold the extra .5L. Fcuk knows.
