I have a 90 model GQ diesel and the brake pedal is hard and does not seem to depress.
It is the same hardness when the car is off or on, e.g it does not depress with your foot on it when you start the car as it should.
I am thinking it is the brake booster playing up in some way.
Any ideas from anyone else who may have had the same problem in the past?
In addition to this I am also loosing clutch fluid but I don't think the two are rleated issues at this point in time.
Thanks |

The booster requires vacumm to work , make sure theres not a leak between the vac pump and the booster , there is also a one way valve in the system you need to check it isn't stuck shut or open . if the vacumm is Ok all the way to the booster then thats your fault . |

How do I go about checking the vaccum?
Do I turn the car on and feel for suction on each bit of hose with my finger, etc? |

Thanks to all those who responded to my problem.
The vacuum pump does not seem to be working properly. It seems to suck when the car first starts and you can feel it if you hold your finger over the suction pipe but when you take your finger off and put it back on it does not suck at all. I have pulled the alternator out and will take the vacuum pump off later in the week to check out the inside of it and go from there. Since I am at it my clutch master is leaking anyway so I have pulled it out to and it is going to the clutch shop tomorrow to be fixed up with new seals etc.
Cheers |
