3L sudden loss of acceleration

hi

wondering if someone could help me out, my 3L is playing up..

if im driving at about 60km or over every few mins there is a sudden loss of acceleration and i can push the pedal right in and nothing happens but if i back off and press it again it like turns back on or something??
could it maybe be the fuel filter or pump...

any help would be great
