loose inner joint housing

What happened here? The right inner joint housing seems to have broken some how during my last 4wd trip.Its moving about an Inch, It gives a really bad vibe now when driving Mad

Could it be bad? It looks like some flat aluminum clip has got mangled in there could it be as easy as replacing the clip?

I presume you are talking about CV.

Broken inner CV is my guess. A flat aluminium clip holds the boot onto the cv shell.

Yes the right hand drive shaft components, Its between here its moving the right hand inner joint housing and

And this is the clip that looks a bit mangled in between it all

Can it be repaired at home? would I need any special tools?

Oh - no that is not CV.....

Only way to see will be pull the hub assembly off, upper, lower and steering ball joints, Tie brakes up out of the way (don't need to disconnect lines)

Then unbolt inner cv from axle and see what remains. The axle should (I've never done it but it theory) with a wee persuasion pull out and you will hopefully see the problem. Looks like a seal maybe? Maybe picked something up and it wrapped around in there?

I doubt you'd need any special tools.......

Just looks like the axle bearing is stuffed not too hard to replace at home. The aluminium part is a bearing protector and is fairly cheap from mitsubishi.

i had this happend to me the circlip inside the diff housing compresed in wich poped the axel out just enouf to fark the circlip so it was stuffed and stuffed the axel spline. i got a new axel that had a clip and put that in. pull top and lower balljoints take auto hub cap take circlips of cv spline pull hole hub brak disk asembaly off. now if you pull the cv and axel out at the same time it should just slide out if not you will haveto take the diff frount plate and have a look at it if the circlip wont come out a special tool is required to pull the axel out. to put new axel out just push in and tap with a hammer till the clip has poped out. rember to put the cv bolts in as when u have it all the way in u cant get the bolts in i have photos of thes and it look excatley the same as yours mate
