I had MT/Rs, now have STTs - don't think there's a great deal of difference.

Next time, I'll look at MTZs too. Possibly the new BFG range, but don't tell anybody. Wink

Yeah i run MT/R's and love em. The new BFG muddies look pretty good tho. I think they're a bit on the pricey side.

I run MT/R's on my '94 and TOYO M/T's on my '99 and the TOYO's are at least 75% better than my MT/R's. The TOYOs have a thicker sidewall, more sidewall bite, more siping on tread blocks, taller tread blocks, and they have bead protection (like BFG's). My TOYO's get better traction than the MT/R's all around. I've also used a few other tires, but they all performed less than my MT/R's. The MT/R's are really good tires but i think they are a little over priced for what you get.

Remember you can't compare a MT/R to a BFG MT as the MT/R is 'Maximum Traction' not 'Mud Terrain' so have never cleaimed to be as good in the mud.

This is backed up in the field by them not clearing as well as the BFG. Simply by looking at them there is alot more rubber on the ground, similar to the Cooper STT.

The BFG's downfall is the rim protector, it is easy to get crap in there and they get slow leaks. I have one now and have had a few. This is all at road pressures as well.

I want a set of those Toyo's but they are very pricey over here. Can't get a quote for under $400 fitted a tyre in 285/75/R16. Most other brands fall around 300.

I got 33 BFG MTs and cant fault them, they dont get stuff stuck in the bead like my simex's used too. but have used them on one real trip and alot of mud bashing.

they not to noisy on the road either. but only time will tell, at this stage i will be buying another set when needed
