I have been to the gulf, was there when timor exploded the second time we were the first ship to get there ( was a bit sad that the media didnt report we where there) I have never missed a dawn service and dont intend to start. I know i have it alot easier than the digger's they did it hard but im very proud to be wearing the same uniform.

No offence but that's horrible! It just sounds like a totally fake attempt to get some royalties from Channel 9's ANZAC Day broadcast or something.

Let's face it our only two ANZAC anthems are I was only 19 and And the band played Waltzing Matilda* and we're still waiting for the next one!

*not that pathetic John Williamson version either.

Whispering Death

Anything you pick up would be great

Drove to Dayton Ohio to the Airforce Museum. Now that is the place for plane buffs. B36's, B29, B 17, B24, ....awesome stuff.

and there was a Beaufighter as used by the USAAF in Italy as a night fighter. The yanks liked them. In fact, one of the veterans I met in Texas commented that he was in awe of the Aussie Beau's due to them being so quiet. 330mph on the deck, low and fast. A whole squadron would take off and you hardly heard the motor, just the sounds of the props. Compared to the B 25's, anything may have been quiet.

Anyway, here is some pics of the Beau.

I was only going off the small info plaque near the aircraft.

I agree that night fighters are usually darker but I googled the aircraft as displayed at the museum and according to their blurb it is painted in their night fighter colours.

americans weren't so fussed about paint as others... it was often a one colour fits all kind of thing, olive drab over grey... towards the end of the war they didn't even bother with it to save weight

they did black out some planes but afaik not in the majority

Met a 25 year old F22 Raptor pilot in Texas recently.

He gave a sanitised overview of the plane and what it could do.

What stood out was that it could engage multiple targets at the same time , fire and forget without atually visualising the enemy albeit except on the radar screen. Asked him at what range could he engage the target.

Response...sorry ..many many yards.... Wink

Had a few drinks with him and thought he may loosen up and start giving up some classified secrets.

Me: So , if I were to pick a number between 10 and 20- km's, would I be getting warm?

No such luck. He just suggestedthat I google it. Shocked

He did inform me that they had RAAF weapon system officer on exchange with his unit. So maybe the RAAF could be getting interested. Wink

Kirrac.

Found out today that this particular Beaufighter had been in Australian service during WW2and had sat forlorn at the Moorabbin Airport yonks ago until rescued and restored. I had no idea that I was looking at an Aussie Beau when it was at Dayton Museum in Ohio.
