Hey you crazy cats ... there are a few spots available right now for Cliffhanger. There have been a few pull outs for lame excuses like the house fell over, rig blew up, gone to war and the ever present threat of pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.....
So if you are sulking about not getting in then act now - go to www.ironmancliffhanger.com
Amazingly we still have Alan Mai, Kym Bolton, Mick Hingerty, Alan Reynolds, GQ Hoon and Darren Green after their destructive efforts in OBC - well done guys. Ian Paltridge is getting a few more HP out of his 700Hp GU and Todd's been hanging around the Boeing factory. Don't forget Cas Jones has his sleeves rolled up and I'm tipping Birdy has fixed his timing belt problem.
By the way I saw Ian Paltridges rig at Broken Hill and after his blast up Even Stephens he had sand blasted all the paint of his rear diff, coils, shocks and control arms - like he backed into an acid bath - Strike !!!
We are introducing a perpetual trophy for Best State Effort. It's not just the state with the winning car - that's just 1st place. This is best 2 car results combined from a given state is best state. We will award plaques to best state winners for 05 06 and 07 at our opening briefing. Tassie boys will have to do every stage twice. Garry - make sure Timmy and the others are there... or you're doing every stage twice too. So, which state is the best ????? |
The dear old Rangie is currently in the Robbie Matheison hospital for the seriously ill (not terminal) comp rigs in Broken Hill. But with Robbie's skill, the old boy will rise from the grave (and no, vigara is not needed) and make one last trip to White Cliffs before retirement. OBC caused gear box, shocks, lights, winch, radiator and panel damage (bloody Viewmont Mud) but the engine still goes. Disappointed at the withdrawals but SA is hanging in there with four entries, so pack the State Trophy for the journey back to SA, if not the State Trophy then maybe the Masters (Veterans) award. |

What does it say for NSW ??? - they have the best location but a team of Victorians had to go there and run Cliffhanger for them on their home turf...
Ha Ha - OBC too - That's 2 lots of Vics running events on NSW soil (read .. dust and prickles).
WA will be strong, given neither of them break. Muppet no doubt will have a new found respect for the prologue stage and will be hoping other states do what he did last year. Vic and Qld both have big teams with competitive rigs. They can afford a few sacrificial lambs...
Good to see Garry hanging in there - I had no idea of the abuse dished out to his rig in OBC - You da man Gaz. |

The driver takes the honours of the state, therefore if Birdy is from Vic, the team is Victorian. |

The Tassie Boyz will only need to do it once as Creely and Bott have two heads so that will count for doing it twice.
GO THE TASSIE BOYZ !! Can't wait to see you all and more importantly Nana.
I have my hat ready and waiting Creely. And my voice will be extra loud this year. |

Might have to agree with you there Darren. Was at the workshop on Saturday and your truck was the only one there that looked half descent, the rest looked like they had been used by the army fighting the war in Iraq. |

Good to hear all the talk about who is going to take home the trophies. As Cliffhanger is run in the best state and as Justanissan lives in NSW I feel we are already way ahead. We will be back again pedaling as fast as we can trying to keep up with the big V,8's. Hopefully this year you will not see the bonnet up.I have got Barb on an intense fitness program of running up to the letterbox each day to collect the mail in training for the winch stages. She keeps asking to go and do some practice. Who needs it.I like Garys suggestion of a masters trophy.See you all out there.Brian and Barb |

Came to Broken Hill for the weekend to deliver another gear box and some other parts for the Rangie. Robbie is doing a great job, working hard to get the old fella ready in time for the Cliffhanger. It has been raining all weekend and there are plenty of mini lakes from Yunta to the Hill. There are some crews up at White Cliffs laying the foundation for the showers but given the rain over the last few days wonder how much they have achieved. There is just under four weeks till the start of the event, expect if the rain continues we will have some great mud stages. |

It seems that rigs who have undergone scrutineering recently are concerned that they have not yet received their log books from CCDA. Pls dont let this concern you too greatly - we will work around it somehow.
For those yet to be scrutineered please make sure you continue with the process.
At worst we will have a list from CCDA of cars with log books owing. |

Just spoke to Kevvy from the West Darling Hotel (our caterers). He just left Cootawundi station an hour or two ago. The spent the weekend at base camp pouring concrete slabs for the showers and kitchen.
They had heaps of rain. The creek besides base camp had 2 feet of water flowing through it, therefore all waterholes now are officially full. |

Oh yeh baby....
Note to self .... "Self - must take carpet out of pace car before going"
Spectators and Marshals need not take carpet out but a set of rubber floor mats would be a good idea.
BTW we wont let you get too deep .. much!
Gees I'm glad I'm not competing. |

The latest web site for CCDA is www.ccda4wd.com.au
Competitors - please down load rules and become familiar with them. Suplimentary rules are in the newsletters. If you haven't yet been scrutineered for a log book then you had better get cracking.
Marshals - remember this Sunday's Marshal night coming up. Pls download and read rules. Brad already has his in a folder and has marked questions or surprise "did you know ...." items. Meeting would be most useful if you have read them up front too.
I dont believe this will impact anyone, but we now have our own insurance policy backed by Loyds rather than being named on someone else's policy. We still intend to be sanctioned by CCDA, just not needing their insurance.
At this stage we dont know who the CCDA has designated as their representative. I hope that person knows who he is as there's not much time left to put in the leave application.

As the result of a lack of comunication I now have a spare ground anchor to sell. It is a race proven design and brand new. It is a single peice unit. Not collapsable. PM me for any further info.
Ok now its down to the shed to work on something we DO need for cliffhanger. THE CAR |

You have to love the gossip that gets around ...
Yes there has been about 20 cars pull out due to births, roll overs and engine blow ups in OBC, injuries sustained in other events, etc etc but we have not adjusted the prize money. There is still $10,000.00 up for grabs between 1st and 3rd and another $10,000.00 split between the stage placings at $500 per stage. If there were only 5 cars racing it would still stand. What's more, you will take the prize money home with you.
The pull outs have all lost their deposits and some more recent ones their full amount because had they not entered we would have given that spot to someone else who would otherwise be racing.
So if you hear someone say we have cut back on prizes or you wont get the prize money straight away please do us a favour and turkey slap them on our behalf. |

What is the ruling re seat belts and window nets in the water crossing. We were allow to drop the nets and remove the belts at the OBC. |

Gaz,
The ruling on nets is that in deep water situations (1m depth or more) your notes will say that you may stop just prior to the water to undo nets and that upon exit of water you must then stop and ensure nets are re connected before continuing.. That's in the CCDA rules.
No exceptions on harnesses in the water. If the car is moving forwards the harnesses must be fitted and be tight enough so as not to fit a clenched fist between the belt and your chest. If you are reversing the CCDA rules provide for the driver to remove right shoulder from harness.

Tom,
The nights are freezing and you have never seen so many stars. The days can be sunny and warm (25 degrees is warm for us Melbournians huh!) But the days can also have a cold wind and that cuts straight through you.
