Lux Trans Handbrake

hey guys. Just looked into a trans handbrake as we all no what lux handy's are like cussing

and i thought maybe one of you guys would be able to help out in the way of engineering them? are they able to be engineered as mines dd for the time being. Cheers, Chris

m8 for some reason lux handbreaks dont work. not cery good anyways. Mines been good and as soon as i go hit the tracks, slightest bit of anythings just stuffs it, and i give up Very Happy

My questions was about engineering not excuses for mine or getting it done Wink

Don't know to be honest.
Just a few notes: They are not liked because they do not work if one of your rear wheels has loose traction.

However If you set it up so your air locker (rear) so it activates everytime your handbrake comes on then it may be engineerable because both your rear wheels will work off the handbrake. Suzuki did this with the SJ410 in Canada I think, as it was the only way they could get the car into the country with the transfer handbrake, except it was a crappy cable locker type device.

Also It may also depend on what year these things were outlawed and if your Lux was built before this date. I think they died off in the late 80's.

I sympathise with having a terrible handbrake, I drove around on monday with my handbrake on in my Zook and didn't have a clue untill I looked down Embarassed

cheers highway star. i do the same with my lux, however now i dont even try i just wack her in low1st when parked. that was great info and i appreciate it. i think for the rear locker part though would be alot of mucking around, but a good idea i must admit. thanks. Wink

should be, patrols have similar set up but with a drum brake from factory.

one problem i could see with it being a DD is that from my knowledge the brake pad just sorta sits there, so it might sit on the disc all the time causing it to wear down. when driving every day it may wear out semi fast...

im not sure how tru that is... iv changed a rear tire on a slope and the only thinh holding it was a drum handbrake on the end of the tranny... the wheel with no traction will turn, but thats fine as the one with traction is still braked

Yeah can't see why not 60s, pootrols and what not have this style only think i think they've picked on is the amount of meat in the disc itself but thats all just talk on here also you brake pads in your callipers just sit there aswell they'll only wear when force is applied to it. If you got your slack ass out to mine it'd be workin sweet for a while just need to adjust them up every now and again

No the wheel can still turn, beacuse the differential will hold whichever wheel is he easiest to hold (the one in air with the wheel off). This can be dangerous, and is why nobody uses them on production vehicles anymore.

If you have the vehicle in 4WD that will also hold it, because your front axle then gets braking (one of the best bonuses of a TC brake).

my ln65s handbrake is good after a bit of fiddling with auto adjusters and cable tension etc even after being out at cruiser park for a weekend it will work as it should. I havnt touched it since.

nissan ones work great and hold great, should be an engineerable mod no worries.

highwaystar GU patrols still use the trans brake. they hold fine. difflock out handrake on on a slippery steep hill they lock the wheels, both of them just slide together neither spins.

. The GU actually has an LSD that works though, so that would help.

Nissan must be if not the only, one of very few who still do build them.

if you have it in 4wd, the front axle will be braked regardless of what style of handbrake you use, because the front and rear axles are linked thru the transfer case.

i was saying mine with the rear locker out and in 2wd still holds both wheels on a hill.
