So, I don't drive my GQ a whole lot these days since I now have a daily driver...

Anyway, that time of year is coming for it (You know, the rego one) and I figured I'd bother getting it fully road worthy

To get to the point, about 6 months ago my odometer stopped working completely (stuck on 299999) and recently the speedo will randomly take itself to 220kph and stay there... If I turn the ignition off it'll reset and read normally and won't occur again until I cold start the truck.

Now my first thought is it may be a contact issue but not knowing much about electronics I'm not going to start pulling things apart until I've got a good idea what may be causing it... I've had a look through previous posts but havn't really found anything that describes this happening intermittently.

Check wiring at the speed sensor located at the back of the transfer case. Then trace the wiring loom along the top drivers side of the transmission case to a plastic multipin connector just where the transmission case and bellhousing meet. Make sure connections there are ok.

The speedo itself is held on the the instrument cluster circuit board by 3 screws which as well as holding it to the circuit board, also serve as contacts to supply the +ve and -ve and speed sensor signals to the speedo. Make sure screws and all electrical connections to the PC board are secure. Do you see any other warning lamps come on when the speedo and odo stop?
