Yesterday i helped a guy fit a set of 2" lifted springs to his 2004 Prado. The day before he had a set of brand new 20x9 rims and 305/50R20 Cooper HT Plus tyres. When i pulled the wheels off i noticed some rub marks on the upper wish bones in the front. It appears that when he is driving out of a driveway etc that the tyre rubs this arm on suspension droop. And now that we lifted it 2" it now rubs at ride height. That bad that it completely locks the wheels. It has almost stuffed the 2 front tyres in less than 100ks.

The shop he bought the rims and tyres from assured him these were the correct set for this vehicle. Anyone else had any issues with a similar set up??

Ryano?

And before anyone starts with the gh3y Prado 20" chrome rims crap the guy only bought it to go up the beach with his family and look cool driving around town.

As per our phone conversation...
Depending on the offset of the rim (I'd say they'd be a P20) I'd run a 275/55R20. Pretty much the same OD as the 305/50R20 just 30 mm narrower.
Prado and the new Hilux don't like the overly wide tyre. In order to clear wishbones and mudflaps I don't like to run more than a 285 on them (all relative to rim offset etc.)

Tell him he should've come here to begin with. Very Happy

Cheers,
Ryano

with 50 series tyres he's obviously not that concerned about ride quality; just weld the wishbones to the chassis at his selected ride height and everyone will be happy. will help counter that excessive body roll, too. armsup

Any pics Tony?

A lifted prado on 20s is one of the options I'd like for when I finally get a nice truck again.

Got non sorry it was still stuck on the hoist last i seen it as he couldnt move it after the lift due to the tyres rubbing. He was going back to the workshop today with the stock wheels so he could drive it back to the tyre shop.

It wasnt something that really excited me. It looked pretty stupid really.

20" rims on a prado would be illegal anyway wouldn't they?

Not if there matched up right say, Roll dameter is within limits track is within limits and doesn't foul on the body or petrude past the body of the car also speed and load ratings are correct and it should be sweet doesn't mean they won't pick on you for them.

ADRs apply limits to rim sizes besides keeping the rolling diameter and width correct. they are definitely illegal unless engineered, and depending on your reading of the rules, may not even be able to be engineered.
