Hi Guys,

A mate of mine is looking at buying a late model Jackeroo turbo diesel.

I have zero experience with these vehicles, so I am turning to the wealth of knowledge here on Outers to see what we should be looking for.
Eg common problems, expense to repair, what to look out for when purchasing. Any info you can provide is greately appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mick

You might like to ask the same questions here

http://forum.australia4wd.com/index.php?

Scroll down to the isuzu section and post under jackaroo.

There's a wealth of info there, should answer most of your questions

They can have some issues with heads cracking, and the injector system as its hydraulically driven.
Isuzu are the bastards that taught Toyota everything they knew about parts pricing, ie whatever the market will bear + 100%.

Having said that they are quite capable off road.

with the diesels, don't be scared off by the preaching you might hear about them being lemons

every vehicle has lemons...
it's just that the holden owners scream and kick about it

use the right oil and you will never have an issue, use the incorrect oil and hell will break loose until you get the right juice in it

everything runs off the oil pressure, so the oil must be perfect

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.

I just signed up on the above mentioned forum(Thanks Guzzi) but you can't post a new topic straight away cussing

I'll post it up there shortly.

I have heard a lot of bad stories about catastrophic engine failures. Is this due to incorrect oil being used?

Thanks,

Mick

yea, the admins have to allow you to post, never had an issue with bots that way Smile

every issue that you can think of specifically for a diesel jack is because the incorrect oil was used

the 3.2L and 3.5L Petrol jacks on the other hand are 100% bulletproof, with lifespans of around 450,000km's!

nobody has reportedly killed a diesel jack from age yet, many are still going well into the 500,000km region

(of course, hours of use and kilometres of use should both be taken into consideration, city driven engines sit idle for an hour each day in traffic... so might as well call that 100km's of highway driving)
