even if you do a partime conversion you will need to get the centre diff lock sorted, otherwise it wont go to 4wdmode, it will just stay in 2wd. |

You should be able to here the motor from the drivers seat with the door open when you press the button. |

If the motor or the relay is stuffed, you wont hear them. |

mine didn't work when i bought it. It turned out to be a broken earth to the transmission loom.
Get a wiring diagram, and hook a 9 volt battery up to the motor to see if you can get it to lock/unlock. Don't use an unregulated 12 volt source as it may burn the motor out. This will tell you at least if the motor is stuffed.
some people in the states have got theirs working by shifting high to low hundreds of times, or by driving around in tight figure eights in low or the button pressed. this may free up the actuator if it's a bit stuck from lack of use.
There is also a procedure for testing the 'transmission control relay' which is inside the drivers side kick panel.
otherwise you may have to pull the motor out and open it up. pulling it out isn't an easy task, and you'll have to lower the gearbox a fair bit to get in there
search ih8mud.com it's been covered there many times |
