I am in need of another 4x4, and was looking at the v8 discoveries. Wanting to know of any inherant problems with the 91-92 models. Also wondering why they have dropped in value so much.

All large engine petrol 4wd's have dropped severely in price, disco's are good value for money vehicles and pretty cheap and easy to maintain.
Go for at least a 3.9 engine model which is late 93 up.

They drop in price because
Petrol is $1.30+/litre
They use around 20L/100km
They are not made by Toyota/Nissan.

I would go for a 94 update onwards as they are cheap enough without having to get a 91-94 pre update.

i have a discovery 2 diesel and it is awsome, they come with a turbo so its great, i have more power on the road than most road cars, more than enough power off road, great traction, clearance and it looks great too.

i would advise a disco 2 or 3 tho as they have made alot of improvements to the design. (the three's are pretty expensive still tho).

in terms of fuel consumption the diesel uses slightly more fuel than my wife's laser, tho the diesel is a bit more expensive these days. the engine bay is well sheilded so noise isnt really an issue either, its as quiet as a mouse, but you can still hear the engine enough to know what its doing.

I have a 95 Disco v8 duel fuel, had it for 12mths and I think it's great. From Gippsland Vic to Broken Hill and back last year, $280 in gas. Comfortable ride and quiet, except Ihave a 2 1/2'' exhaust which all tell me it sounds great. Go for it. Just remember all second hand cars do have a few issues. Once you fix them you'll be right. The help you will get from the guys on this site is great with any issues. Laughing
Good luck Claude.
