Don't know where the rest of OZ is coming but we have reserved the first five spots for QUEENSLANDERS.
Because......................
VIC, probably pay the judges because the majority are from down there.
SA, Rangies!!! what else can I say but "Rangies" (Gary).
NSW, TUFF TRUCK's Yeah right.
WA, Donuts are more tempting than competing.
NT, Where tha.
Nearly forgot TAS, Is that part of OZ??????
Your right we should have a state trophy because there's nothing like a bit of state rivalry.
GO THE QUEENSLANDERS. Bring it on. Lol.......
(Judges, by the way us QLD'ers love you too incase your from one of those other unfortunate states). |

I'm sure Birdy, Krimnl & Kill Bill will be really happy about that one. Their own blood telling them that they can't win.
Birdy's team is half QLDer anyway. |

Ah yes a state trophy - a must have. How about a perpetual state trophy that gets handed back each year? Cool idea?
Oh yeh I forgot about SA - how did that happen? How remiss of me. Very unfair of me as Gaz dragged us across the line with lots of support when the Cliffhanger was a measly 15 vehicles.
Yes although Vic is home ground for me I did "do time" in Qld in fact I met Mr Piglet some 20+ years ago when we were trading in leaf sprung Land Rovers. Sorry Piglet - we did agree not to tell anyone. Sean Calcino and Bruce Kennedy would testify to the strife we got up to in Qld in the early 90's and I was even president of Gold Coast 4x4 Club for a year.
So my money is on Vic vs Qld - sorry Gaz. |

Mal, what is happening atpresent is that people are pulling out slowly because of babies and new jobs (the usual) and we are filling those spots from Stand By at about the same rate. As at 31 May the entries from Stand By will cease and any pull outs after 31 May will drop numbers from 65 down to what ever the final answer is - we envisage high 50's.
So the bottom line is that it's not too late. You have to be on the stand by list to stand a chance of getting on by 31st May. So far it looks like all people on stand by will be in.
To get onto stand by - register on line on www.navrun.com.au or www.ironmancliffhanger.com and when you get invited to come off stand by and onto the official list you then need to pay $250 deposit and then the balance ($1250) on 31st May along with money for fuel dump if you need fuel at the property.
Are you up for it Mal? Can you handle Cliffhanger? Are you good enough? NSW might just need you for the State Trophy??
Actually there is some interest from O/Seas and what good is a state trophy if it goes O/S? Bloody Hell ... |

Just a word of warnng - there is a stage with 100 waypoints and if you still have hand held GPS or still do old style up up up, down down down data entry then that just wont cut it.
Also, 80% of these waypoints will be straight forward same format same datum. 20% will be projectional and mixed format so as to split the great teams from the good teams.
I would like to see only 5 to 10 teams get all 100 and only time splits them. There will be approx 5 compulsory waypoints to avoid DNF and at least 1 waypoint to avoid DNS.
The terrain is rough and mountainous and spectacular. There are no tracks.
Just one group of up to 15 rigs will do it at one time (you would be lucky if you saw another rig) and you will have about 5 hours.
There will be no cameras, Navrun style. |

State Trophy - hummmm Not all SA entries are Rangies, only two, some did'nt see the light, lost there way, fell off the rails, and unfortuately are now driving those follow me rigs. The fastest rig does'nt always win so with some big nav runs the end result it could be interesting. And by the way there is no handicap for the Vics as that is already a handicap. Cheers Gary |

Sounds great Hobzee! Just one question though, because this stage will go for 5 hours and be more of an endurance test, does that mean you'll get more points for a stage win than you would on short winch stage? Or are all stages weighted the same? |

Yes Tom I agree that a "balls and all" stage ought to be weighted with a higher score. However CCDA scoring technique does not accommodate this. We will consider a fair way to do it and the scoring techniques stage by stage will be made public before the event starts (at Drivers briefing and in course notes). It might still be that all stages have the same score. But regardless you will know in advance.
Hey Tom I bet you are glad to be a seasoned Navster. You know what you are in for ... and you know you can do it too. That must take a load off your mind. ha ha |

haha yeah I recon doing a couple of years of NavRuns should help with these sorts of nav stages. Im looking foward to this format, more of an open area and no tracks, should be fun |

Hi teams - I have had people ask me to find them suitable GPS units and as I find them I shall post up links on here. I am searching world wide
For now I have found the following FX324... right under my nose hey Pete..
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic140120.php&sid=d5b120e55c5946d459e6480839f24bc2
This particular unit has won many events so I can vouch for it. Had a pretty hot operator too. And Pete drove.... |

"Once your break the surface its all bad"
Tyres down at 10psi, all lockers on. Hobzee then had to recover Schaf in turn Rudi had to recover all, only then to be reovered by all. (all 4 cars bogged at once). |

Just wet. After a bit of rain the water soaks through making quick sand.
Rumours are the skeleton in the pic my be Guido, as he hasn't been seen since the last Cliffhanger he competed in...... |

Jeff - property owner at Cootawundi has asked us to look out for ...
33x12.5-16.5 tyres second hand for an old '49 Chev Truck. Alternatively 8 stud wheels (Eaton Diff) with tyres in 15 or 16".
Also looking to buy a Long tray back truck say 22'-24' long tray and say 240 HP - happy to pay $15K to $30K. Might just be a way of getting your rig to Cliffhanger.
Pls call Hobzee with ideas or leads ... 0417 486 637.
BTW - We had a look see around the station on Monday after watching first few days of OBC - very dry - had no rain. Water levels down and little risk of cars being flooded. Going up in 2 weeks to set up. Not long now...
Hope Al Raynolds and Al Mai are ok after rolling both rigs in OBC. |

It's a shame OBC thread went the way it did. We really want OBC to continue being a great event. The more great events we have then the more great rigs we have competing. Cliffhanger and OBC are the only two cross country terrain style events and a lot of rigs are being built now to suit this - obviously a popular design. Can you imagine a Bathurst if there were no other V8 Touring Car events in the series or a Melb Grand Prix if there were no other Grand Prix events in the world - would be a flop. So we need more events like OBC and Cliffhanger.... and they need to be successful.
My Go Nads are on the line to put on a rip snorta and so many people are reminding me of this - nothing like a bit of pressure... |

Hey you crazy cats ... there are a few spots available right now for Cliffhanger. There have been a few pull outs for lame excuses like the house fell over, rig blew up, gone to war and the ever present threat of pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.....
So if you are sulking about not getting in then act now - go to www.ironmancliffhanger.com
Amazingly we still have Alan Mai, Kym Bolton, Mick Hingerty, Alan Reynolds, GQ Hoon and Darren Green after their destructive efforts in OBC - well done guys. Ian Paltridge is getting a few more HP out of his 700Hp GU and Todd's been hanging around the Boeing factory. Don't forget Cas Jones has his sleeves rolled up and I'm tipping Birdy has fixed his timing belt problem.
By the way I saw Ian Paltridges rig at Broken Hill and after his blast up Even Stephens he had sand blasted all the paint of his rear diff, coils, shocks and control arms - like he backed into an acid bath - Strike !!!
We are introducing a perpetual trophy for Best State Effort. It's not just the state with the winning car - that's just 1st place. This is best 2 car results combined from a given state is best state. We will award plaques to best state winners for 05 06 and 07 at our opening briefing. Tassie boys will have to do every stage twice. Garry - make sure Timmy and the others are there... or you're doing every stage twice too. So, which state is the best ????? |
