I drove down that rd on thursday just before they closed it, the gap in the rd was at least 1m wide and half way across my lane i had to swerve onto wrong side of rd and just missed it, if someone had gone into it there was a 30m drop off the edge of the mountain.

yeah id say you will have a wait there.
they would have to retain the drop off side.
workout why it happened etc.
then fill it in, put down the pavement (after its designed)
then seal it.
the saving grace is if it is closed you save a heap of time.
atleast doubles the time when you are doing a road thats open.

but yeah sounds nasty hey,
old road, hilly terrain, heaps of rain.
you get that on the big jobs.

Man, thats the worst bit of the road - Can hardly say I'm surprised... All I can say is I'm glad I wasn't going down there at the time... especially the way I drive down there in the commodore. Razz

Shame really , the they just re surfaced the the whole hill section there ,
The old surface was like ice in the rain .

im thinking month maybe two , the thing will need to dry abit before they start probing around .

I came down it about 3.30pm thursday , didn't notice a thing wrong .

As if we need any more delay's heading to sydney in peak hr, im not looking forward to the traffic congestion this is going to cause , i think heading the back way from gosford to somersby then onto freeway will be the way to go especially in the arvo the traffic at the intersection at the bottom of the hill in gosford is gunna suck.

On Friday arvo i was heading up the Kariong hill from Gosford, from the light intersection at Brisbane water Drive and Pacific Highway all the way up the hill and just past the lights at pacific highway and woy woy road was banked up. That was on a holiday without rush hour traffic, imagine just how bad it will be monday afternoon when everyone who wants to get to Woy Woy has to get home via Gosford.

Here are photos I took on Saturday Morning

I would say it's actually only about 1/4 up from the bottom of the hill, it's not close to the top at all.

But it all looks like clay - no rock at all under the road itself!

Finally, some actual news about this:
http://www.expressadvocate.com.au/article/2008/04/30/5859_news.html

Gonna take at least 2 months to repair! I'm wondering if it'll take that long because Gosford City Council are going to pull their finger out and maybe actually do it properly?

But then, we can always dream...

I heard the same thing... but really.... goodluck to opening up half the road to traffic.... i can understand why, but seriously... is it really worth it if the weight of more traffic up and down that road collapses it even further.... could end up like another somersby if they do that.
I couldn't imagine that Gosford council would leave itself open to that sort of liability after previous incidents.

But alas, we are talking about Gosford Coucil aren't we!!! Rolling Eyes

yeh traffics been a bitch lately. its hard to believe that many people travel to sydney especially from the peninsula. But they do, and its a nightmare going through anywhere near gosford.

could be a while, have fun trying to come down thorugh a single lane on bulls hill. worst bit being is that every man and their dog is trying different ways around the brisbane water drive intersection that traffic everywhere is farked.
