Hi guys
Did a bit of a search as i know nothing really abou jeeps, but did any of the TJ Wranglers 98 onwards come out with a decent deisel motor...

Just curious as thinking about one for a next vehicle after the rusts out..

Cheers, either that or its going to be a GQ ute.

Cheers Boys...

Then in saying that, can anyone point me to where i can find info on what changed over the years in the TJ models...

Im tipping prolly not much, but thinking maybe just minor improvements to dash/interior, engine/drive train problems sorted... etc. Basically saying, if i was to look at a buying one, which years should i look at/avoid.

Thanks and thanks again.
Leeroy.

There used to be a Jeep site in the UK with year by year model changes...you might be able to google it. Apart from a slightly different head in 2000 (which was already on the XJ) and changes to the gearboxes the TJ is relatively unchanged over the 10 years it was sold.

96/97 introduced
2000 some minor head work, coil pack, and NVG3500 manual trans

in between 00 and 07 the 3 speed auto became a 4 speed and the 5 speed manual became a 6 speed.
Also some changes in soft top material (less noise).

07 end of TJ

Only real common fault is cracking exhaust manifold. More common 97-99. Most people just fit extractors if the factory one cracks. Just buy a good one that's not been abused.

Despite the gearbox changes over the years, breaking gearboxes is not an issue. But more gears are better right?

The tj wrangler actually did come out with a diesel in england. It had the 2.5 litre vm diesel the same one that is in the xj cherokee. If you could get a motor and gearbox out of a xj, you should be able to fit one into a tj .

been a fair bit of bad reports about that vm diesel that was in the xj's.

I'd stay clear of it.

do some homework and see if you can fit one of the new diesels that come out in the wrangler.
