G'Day

My old man is wrecking a 60 series cruiser. There are a few of lifes little luxuries under his car that I would like to put in mine. I was wondering if:

A 4-speed box (came out of a 1983 hj60 with 2h donk) would fit into a 1980 bj40 with a b (3 litre) motor. My box is a 4-speed and I'm pretty sure they are the same, but my tranny won't go into high 2 (I've tried everything) and I've got the box sitting there, so I figured it may fit and save me having my truck off the road for ages while I fix the case.

The disk brake hubs off a front of a 1989 HJ62 (not the whole diff, just the disk brakes) will bolt in. I would like a disk front (wouldn't we all) and figured this might work.

How easy is a 2H motor to put into a 40?

ALSO. If anyone wants 60 series bits, alot of it is still here. Send a P.M. if your interested.

Cheers

why not put the complete 60 series diff under front and rear, will give you a much nicer wider track
thats what bj on roids used to run and what shorty40 has etc

pretty easy to put the 2h motor but i think you need the box as it wont match your existing box (but i could be wrong)

Brendo,

The 60 series gearbox will not go in your BJ because they have a different leangth and different spline input shaft. You can swap these over if you want to pull them apart. The actual bolt up is the same but for some reason they used a different shaft to the FJ's and HJ's. You should be able to interchange the transfer cases if your BJ has a split transfer without the transfer handbrake.

The front swivel hubs will bolt on without too much effort. You will need to change your master cylinder or you can use the 60 series master cylinder if you run the rear backing plates and brakes off the 60 as well. Depends on weather your existing rear brakes have 1 or 2 slave cylinders per wheel. If yours are already single slave, then just bolt on the 60 master. You may need to use bushes or change the tie-rod ends on the rod between your hubs as the 60 and 40 tie-rod end pin size is different depending on the model of 40 series.

Good luck with it.
