you can get everything you need off an EFI 22RE powered (RA65) celica. computer, wiring, fuel pump, MAF, temp sensor, fuel pump, cold start injector, manifold (2 piece plenum/runners), injectors, fuel rail, injector resistors. later models will have a lambda (exhaust oxygen) sensor also so you will have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold for that or use the EFI exhaust manifold. the thermostat housing is intergral to the EFI manifold and the top housing is different, the non efi one does not fit properly. there is a heater hose spigot doodad under the manifold somewhere that is also different on the EFI motors.

there are minor differences in the head too but you can notch the head for the injector spray while still installed on the motor.

the EFI cam might also be different.

on the bundera the EFI plenum doed not clear the clutch master cylinder, needs 1" body lift - may also be an issue on luxes.

think hard about getting a whole motor with computer etc from a wrecker/importer, by the time you change everything over onto your existing motor and keep running back to the wreckers you'll spend more than a whole motor will cost. I did it the hard way and was sorry.

that's the gear dude, you will need to add computer, wiring harness, pump. you don't need to fiddle with the ignition, the computer handles only fuel. the electronic dizzy is the pick but needs the igniter module usually found strapped to the coil - but it is not necessary to change the ignition system at all if you are using the celica computer etc.

it's still pretty cheap, the manifold alone from a wrecker is $150ish.

if you could pick up a haltech or wolf cheap second hand for $500ish it would be cheap and worthwhile, especially if you have cheap dyno access.

guessing $1200 new but from a wrecker maybe $300 - $500? you need to get a licensed LPG installer guy look over it once it's in to make sure it's all ok.

cheaper and easier than EFI or a diesel conversion whichever way you look at it, even if you're paying a bloke to do it all.

I got a quote of $300 on the Northside of Brisbane for all parts needed to do the conversion on my 22R. I was about to go through with it but Punchy convinced me not to. Seeing as he knows his mechanics much better than me - I took heed.

beebee the efi conversion or the LPG? either way all the parts for $300 would be a bargain - what reasons were you given for not going ahead with it?

Just buy one thats already been in a lux. Wink The Finger
Bubs you already would of asked tony about this ?
As long as you have the wiring harness, computer, etc.
I have all the wiring diagrams that show you where every wire out of the computer goes. Amazing how few are needed to make it run. I respliced it into my 84 lux. Didnt think it was that hard. Beebee yours has the 22r already so would be even easier. Tony said the hardest part was going through the harness & getting rid of the wires you dont need.

If i was to do this again i would only perchase the 22R EFI manifold and injectors
Everything else i would use from a EFI JD Camira.
They dont run an airflow meter and also use a bosch computer similar to that used in a VN commodore so it is easily programed

$300 was for the EFI conversion and the wrecker had 2 donor vehicles that had only just arrived so there was a good chance that they would have had everything needed. I would have had to have completed the conversion in about 3 days as I only found the gear toward the end of a holiday break. When I have mechanical troubles (ie motor) with my lux I usually turn to Punchy and I didn't want to embark on a project and get to a stage where I couldn't complete it and have him turn around and say "I told you so"! His recommendation was to get a half cut to ensure that everything was there. Maybe one day I'll look into it again.

Please explain

so i use the 22RE injectors and inlet manifold? computer and everything else comes from the Camira - thats a holden right?

does the same go for swaping to a factory 22RE motor? - I would presume so
