Biggest tyre size!

I am currently running a 3.8l comm engine backed by an auto in an 85 4runner. I was wondering the biggest advisable tyre size to run, i am currently running 35inch claws.

how well does it turn them at the moment? how much room in your guards you got?

I want to do some comp. work. Rockcrawling and stuff. It turns them pretty well.......no complaints there.

dunno what your rules are up there, but most comps i know of only allow 36s for some reason. i think they need new rules.

Yeah i think it`s the same rule across the board..... in modified anyway! It sux i know but them the rules.

how much breakage.......locked or unlocked and how are the mtr`s generally?

MT/Rs are awesome. i been through about 3 ft of mud twice that none of my mates could get through once, and they got simexs. i have been able to do everything i have tried to date, i mean absolutly everything! only time i need a strap is when my mates need a tow.

I find the MTR really good. But I have never used a really aggressive tyre like a Swamper or Simex. I came from the old style BFG 35". I have broken a birfield since fitting the 37's. I run a lockright up front with the steering stops right out so it limits steering. I think this help the birfield last a bit longer. They seem to break more often when the wheel is locked and reversing. I will eventually get some longfields from the US.

Dont forget that the size of the tyre for comp purposes is generally measured at 20psi. So it is likely that a 37" MTR will measure at 36" when at 20 PSI. It would be wiorth checking out with people who have 37" MTR to see if they measure.

Some comps measure them on the vehicle and some off the vehicle so be careful.

Seriously, run multiple sets of tyres, its the only way to comply with rules no matter where you go, whatever you want to do. 38 TSLs, and keep the 35s for the smaller class (tyre size rated) comps. You will never be able to set up a rig that will be competitive in every sort of comp, so compromise is the only way to specialize.

Thanks guys....... i am trimming the front guards aswell as the rears, i do have longfield although i have lent them to a mate, gettn new ones soon..... i hope Rolling Eyes
