Hi all, Cool
While going through a small country town i saw a fj55 sitting in a paddock,
i've been interested in it but have not spoken to the owner yet,
from the road the bodywork looks ok, it also has no front wheels so i dont think its gone anywhere for a while at least,
just assuming that it's all mostly there, do you think there would be any major problems or traits that would prevent it from being a good car with a bit of work, or would it be not worth the money?

Thanks for any suggestions!
'Cheers'
BushBoy

G'day Bush Boy,

My first 4be was a FJ55. I gave it a 2" spring lift and 3" body lift (dead easy) and a diff locker and some 33" mudders (oh, and a 253). What a beast of a rig. Being the age and value that you don't really care of minor panel damage it went any where.
I took down Porters Rd 3 times. Once it drove it totally unassisted. The only thing that stoppped it was cancer. They are real proned for rust in the roof, floor pans and the bottom of the doors. Could be something to do with the beach work I used to do in it. Wink
It would be a "different" rig if you took to it properly. I have never seen one on the comp circuit or at a jamboree for that matter.
One bad thing was the 4 wheel drum brakes and armstrong steering. I stuck discs on from a 40 series. Could also do with an arse chop, or just rely on the towbar to slide on.

Go the '55......

Alec

Hi guys,
thanks for the tips, sounds like good plans for a kickass 4b,
one prob, im only 17, just finished year 12 TODAY YAAAY Very Happy Very Happy ,
and no job and no money, so looking to get a job, get some money,
and perhaps buy the 55 to do up (or some other cheap tojo), restore a bit first Very Happy, then hot up Very Happy Very Happy
well as soon as i get my P's i'll drive down and have a look, i want it,
I really like the 55's, my uncle has 1, it's stock but cool tho,
some people think they r ugly, but they just haven't enough imagination,
i think they look real good,
#Milti
might not be worth doing up but could be good for parts,
but if its all there or mostly there couldn't be too much effort to get goin at least,
even if 'say' the engine wasn't there i guess i could pick up an cheap petrol tojo engine from somewhere, wreckers??
i'd need wheels + tires to get it on the trailer but its all good
tow home a cruiser behind dads cruiser #Crazy
anyhoo thanks again guys, i'll let ya's all know in the next few months if i'll get it or not, + what its like, soonest i'd get it/one/somethin' would be mid Feb'

'Cheers'

The 55 in our group "Gutsquishers" has

Injected 350 chev
60 series diffs and PS
4 wheel disk brakes
Air locks
full coils all round
high mount
Only 36 inch swampers (wants bigger but just doesn`t have the $$$)
Plus it has now been cut down into a twin cab with a small tube tray on the back.
