Rodeo pet. or diesel

Looking at getting a Rodeo for work truck. A 4x4 space cab
would be best, what do you guys think of your trucks ?????
Petrol & diesel, I'm leaning towards a petrol as my last diesel
cost me losts of money. No it was'nt a Rodeo, I'm moving
over from the dark side. [maybe]

petrol's are pathetic with fuel economy around town, they are pretty bad on highways also

both the petrol and diesel isuzu engines are reliable, so you shouldn't have an issue there

i'd go the diesel (i currently have a petrol jackaroo, which is basicly the same thing, just in a wagon)

Hey mate depends what you want.. I have a 97 2.6L 2WD and its never let me down. Although it has been bored out and goes like a shower of shit.

Chickoroll is right all the isuzu bread vehicles are great. The V6's are suppose to be bad on fuel,, or do the just have a small tank!! Keep in mind that the new rodeos are the holden 3.6L alloytec engines. Then the diesels.. still a little behind in the design aspect. But compared to the new toyota common rail the isuzu is still very simple and a lot cheaper to fix.

the V6 tank is 85L (at least in the jack it is)
and you are looking at 550k's on regular unleaded

how you drive it doesn't affect economy, i have driven like a grandma, and a hoon, on the same runs, and the economy was the same

you can get up to 800on premium with highwaytrips, 600 premium for city
600highway on regular, 550 regular city
350-440 ethanol city and highway...

Go the diesel Very Happy

I have some Isuzu MU's very close to the rodeo and the 2.6 petrol gets about 15L per 100k and the 2.8T diesel gets about 8L per 100k and I can go up the same hill in 5th in the diesel at 100 km/h but the petrol has to go back to 3rd to stay at 100 km/h

there must be somthing wrong with mine then.. Im getting bout 10l to the 100km, and its bored 40 thou over!! Not to worry but being a mechanic, i find a lot of people complain about enconomy and poor power from the 2.6. Remove sensor from air flow meter and clean with contact cleaner, prob solved and save them hundreds on a new air flow meter.

hi Jbell, I've got an 2004 RA V6 space cab pickup. done 113000 kms and I need a new engine Mad

a few of these motors have had issues with the catalitic coverter. from what I understood the cat's internals crumble and the motor creates a vacume under deceleration, sucking exhauste & cat particles back into the motor, which is highly abrasive to the internals. this info was given to me by a holden dealer mechanic, who said that they've fixed this through waranty before. has any one else heard or experianced the same problem?

chippieleigh I feel for you. My td5 died at 146k due to metal
particals in the motor from a bolt head rolling around inside.
Cost about 16k to get it fixed. I do not want to go there again!!

mine will be a minimum 7k but hopefully they'll cover it under waranty cause it's been hapening to others

Ive got 99 Rodeo with a 3.2 V6 petrol. Goes like a shower of shit and its actually not bad on fuel considering its nominal gross weight is usually around 2200kg. (lots of accessories)
Its on LPG too.
Can get 1100kms range from 50lts of gas and 110lts of petrol.
Its wierd though, I get the same economy from LPG towing a trailer as I do without one.
Never had any drama's with the engine.
If this thing had a live front axle and some decent clearance and wheel travel it would crap on Toyota's and Patrols off road.
We had two 94 model 2.8td's 4wd utes at place I worked at, one was great, no problems, the other one was a total POS.
I think some are duds because of neglect, or thrashed, or whatever but Isuzu's are generally pretty top notch out of the factory (bar a few design flaws in some engines such as the injector problems of the 3.0td's not long back.)

I have an 89 turbo diesel Jack 4 door. Its pretty slow (compared to my twin turbo soarer) but gets great economy both around town and on the highway.
I filled up and put 60 liters in the tank, then put another 30 and did 1100 Kms. Most of that was with 4 people in the car, plus all the stuff for a weekend away.

I also got 9/10 liters per 100Kms with a full load of wood, and a small trailer full of wood and with my motorbike on it. Its shaped like a brick and has shocking wind resistance.

im just about to sell mine (cause its 2wd) but the isuzu v6 (6ve1) chews through the fuel but it got plenty of power and great on towing (Chews the juice) but power wise its great.

Ive heard the reliability of the new holden 3.6's arent the same as the isuzu 3.5 engines.

ive got a 97 rodeo turbo diesel and its great, good fuel economy and enough power to tow anything you just have to know eventually youll get to the top of the hills. its a bit sluggish but reliable as.
if you buy a v6 dont go past a fuel station without filling up they love fuel.
the ra models, i havent heard of any probs with the diesels and they have heaps more power than my tf but they are electronicaly controled. so if something does happen it might cost more to fix.
go a tf if ya can find 1 with lowish ks.

I have a 2007 Td 4 door cab chassis, now with 25,000km on the clock, great ute, average fuel on mainly highway driving 10.2 lt/100, with a canopy on the back it drops to 10.7. Plenty of power towed a 6x12 dual wheel cage trailer from Brisbane to Mackay & back loaded and could stay on the speed limit no problem, fuel went to 13.5 lt/100.
