A Malaysian man shocked doctors when a check-up for an eye infection led to the discovery of a 6 centimetre wooden chopstick embedded between his eyes, reports said yesterday.

Ng Keng Choon, 30, who is mentally disabled, went to a hospital seeking treatment for swelling of his right eye when doctors made the discovery, the Star daily reported.

Hospital authorities immediately arranged for an operation, where the chopstick, which was stuck deep into Ng's flesh and ran from under his right eye through his nose and to the back of his left eye, was removed.

Following an attack by strangers five years ago, Ng had been suffering from loss of vision but had never been aware of the foreign object in his face, the report said.

Ng later told reporters he did not feel any pain after the attack until recently, when his eyes began to water uncontrollably.
