Hi again all. Thought i'd throw in this link just for anybody who doesn't surf too many forums or dig too deep. Found them the other day, and they're pretty cheap for what they are. The guy does post to OZ too.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44565&highlight=toyota+body
Hilux Modified Ute Race Body
Later 90's Hilux Extra Cab
Navara Extra Cab
Jeep Cherokee
Apparently he got some bloke to custom make them - I didn't get a chance to scroll through the 20 page thread (i'm on dialup), but i'm sure he would've bought out a few more bodies.
Also, on the note of cheap bodies, flicking throught the new RCHobby World / Local Toyworld catalogue, i see a 1/8 scale el'cheapo FJ40 Land Cruiser electric truck for $129, with a very well detailed scale body. Someone else has also made mention of this on this forum. I called to see if i could buy the body as a spare, but apparently they're not available as a spare part.
The local toyworld guy tells me he's been asked heaps for the bodies - but most people just fork out the $$$ and buy the whole shebang just for the body. Being a Terry Tightarse, is there anyone else whos had any luck chasing up one of these as a spare? Surely they'd have to have SOME spare parts listing.

i got one of these today.
awesome RC truck, a hell of a lot better than the 1/4 scale F-350 from Kmart for the same price.
Toyworld seem to believe that these FJ's only come in blue.
the version they have is called SUNCON, which is funny because if you peel off the SUNCON stickers from the box, it says SKYNET under it.
i know for a fact that Aoshima/skynet offer these in Blue, red and the original yellow/tan.
ahhhh the money you pay just for a body |

yep, your local Toyworld should have them in stock for $129 each.
i just recieved an interesting email from ModelEngines about these (the Australian distributor):
"In regards to the Landcruiser, it is actually made by Suncon Toys and then distributed to the various companies. However we do not get much control over what colour is available at the time of shipping.
The last shipment was actually yellow, but we do not have any left. All the current stock has been pre-sold. If your Toyworld still has orders with us, the next one they will receive will be yellow."
very interesting to know that they are actually made by SUNCON and then distributed to other companies such as SkyNet and Aoshima. |

Yeah...., still don't know if i can justify spending $130 just for a body. Seems like a waste. I was hoping to see a few pop up on eBay that have cooked motors or radio gear that someone wants to hock off cheap. No luck yet.

they are actually a pretty good RC as is.
just undo the 4 screws that hold the body on and use the rest to have some fun with.
hell.....lock the diffs and take off the bumpers and have some real fun!
they certainly arent a rock crawler but they have a ton of power, wont get bogged on grass (even long grass) and you can even drive them over your boot....thats a lot more than most other 'el-cheapo' rcs can do. |

Ha ha. I actually offered to buy the missus one so that we could play monster trucks together ( with hers being minus the toyota body ). Didn't go down too well. Between the swearing i think i heard her mention something about "...growing up.....priorities....mortgage....responsibility...". I didn't catch all of the conversation as i was busy playing Spongebob on the x-box. Meh.

well, it had to be done.
diffs are locked
im surprised to find that the planetary gears are METAL, although they are cast, they are still metal.
steering uses a REAL servo, not the old click click system on $5 kmart specials.
anyway once the battery is charged, ill see what it can do with the limited stock suspension |
