Hi all. Not too sure how many of you guys are in the know (or even if you care), and this has been on one or two of the other forums - but here goes!!
Tamiya are doing a re-release of the old Hilux/Blazing Blazer (an American "thing" i think), to debut at the Tokyo Hobby Show (November), and released in stores October. Based on the frame & running gear of the F-350, but fitted with the old school early 80's Hilux/Blazer body.
The original was brought out in the early 70's i think (before my time), but it's always been a much sought after RC truck - mainly cause of its incredible scale features, but also cause its built like a BRICK SHITHOUSE!! Lots and lots of metal (in the old ones anyways). I reckon the leaf springs are pretty trick too!
The original babies go for sale these days (when you can find them) for well into the thousands of dollars ($2k up to even $3k!!). But most have lived their life as a "shelf queen" - i'd be too scared to use it too.
Anyway, here's a link to a press release thingy - and it'll be great for us to now have access to a Hilux body - and not pay a small fortune for it!

Apologies if this has already been covered (i did search prior to posting up!)
Enjoy!! Cheers - Coxy |

I reckon i'd probly do the same if i had a spare $1800, but i'd have to make it a covert operation or the missus would be asking for her $1800 to spend on shoes!! Its a lot of money to just have sitting on a shelf, knowing that you'll never have the balls to pull it down and actually use it.
The LHS called Tamiya Australia for me and they dont have a product listing for the Hilux yet. Wont be over here till Feb-March 2008.

Hi all. Just another quick update on the Tamiya Hilux Hi-Lift. Unless you live under a mushroom and missed all the release shenannigans, the aforementioned RC truck is now out and available.
My LHS is still quoting me around the $700-$800 mark for it, but if your keen on one, you can pick them up via good old eBay for well under AU$400 (ex Hong Kong), minus the radio gear and some electronics.
I'm considering using the money set aside for the missus' xmas present to put one of these in my display cabinet....
Lucky i thought ahead and got a couch big enough to sleep on.
I'm waiting for a spare part price on the body too, will update when i hear back.

mate you lhs is insane the hilux body is just getting dropped onto the remade f350 tamiya highlift , wich is a remake of the original hilux
and the f350 was only priced between $600-$650 now you can get one for $500, or even buy my one that is for sale built and never driven |

Yep. I try to support local business (as my family own one), but its bloody hard to justify having to spend nearly twice the money just to support the locals. I'm not one for haggling on price either as i cop that myself every day of the year. And yeah, i know the Hilux hi-lift is just a different body on the old F-350 chassis (plus a surfboard too!). Not as cool as the originals, but i still wouldn't mind one!

How deep are your pockets????
It can range from a terry tight-arse $150, up to over $1000 depending on what you want to do, and the quality of the actual radio gear etc.
And the Tamiya multi-function unit is an extra couple hundred too (either $250 or $700, cant remember) if you want a REAL flash Hilux.
Cheers - Coxy
PS. Pity they never did a scale Patrol |
