viscous centre diff

does a 90 rangie vogue have a viscous centre diff are they any good if not what can be done about it how can you tell which ones have them, when did they go to the fine spline diffs what model had the stronger diffs,
what is a 90 vogue worth 300,000 kms good nick no add ons??

A 90 Vogue does have a viscous coupling, but only the crappy 10 spline axles and diffs. 24 splines didn't arrive until mid 93.

THe diff problem can be rectified by either fitting Maxi-Drives or getting a set of 24 spline Disco centres, but with the similar set-up to the old 10 spline Rover diffs, they may last a bit longer, pending how hard core you go. I run a 10 spline air locker in my 92 Rangie without mishap and it's been fitted close to 2 years now. I suppose it's how you drive it, but it WILL break eventually, full stop!!!

About the viscous coupling, get rid of it as it's a waste of space under the Rangies driveline. It may be a bit more civilised, but doesn't allow you to select diff lock, and can bring you undone. This is a mod I have done to my Rangie recently, and the diffrence off-road is quite remarkable. Inow only use the air locker only when I need it. I think what was happening was the drive was transferd to the front as the rear was under load with the air locker engaged. May be wrong, but that's my theory.

Something like you are looking at with that amount of mileage shouldn't be more than $8,000 easily. maybe if the vehicle itself is on top form, maybe it may justify a better price. There are plenty around for less and just as good if you are patient.

You can the ones with the viscous diff as you are unable to shift the t/case lever over to the left to lock the diff in.
