i'm asking this question for a mate of mine.
whats the biggest lift you can get away with on a gq without have to play around with caster etc? 2-3 inch possible?
he just wants something small to help clear his tyres. |

Hi guys, Ive been meaning to ask the same question aswell. So where would be a good place in sydney to get these caster plates from.? And how much? And lastly will 33s fit a SWB GQ without getting a bodylift (in terms of full tuck) , just a 2-3 inch suspension lift?
Sorry for all the questions and hijacking this thread.
Cheers,
Rod |

Rod I use 285/75R16 Muds, on a GQ SWB with 2inch susp lift (ome coils, koni shocks). This size will have minor rubbing in the inside of the rear gaurds at full compression. But nothing to really worry about, just carry a can of black paint to cover up the scrub marks.
I have a 2" body lift now and they still scrub. So wack'em on and go play.

well my mate checked out a few suspension shops and they all reckoned that he'd have to fit caster correction even if he only went 2 in. ARB quoted $1400 for the 2in lift
sooooo, are they just tryingto rip him off, or are they really 'that' necessary?????? |

Caster correction is an advantage on long drives, the vehicle won't wander all over the road and is much more positive steering wise. It's not totally necessary for the lift your mate plans to install - the CG will still be low and it doesn't sound like he plans to run a large tyre, so handling won't be affected much. But if he wants the rig to drive like a sedan, and has no tolerance for 4wd handling characteristics, then fit the caster bushes.
The installation of the suspension is not that hard - you could knock it over in a few hours (and save some money in the process). You can remove the front cast arms and have the bushes pressed in by ARB (or whoever supplies the caster bushes)
Prolly the minimum you'd want in a GQ lift is 4 inch - the 2 inch will prolly just take it back to standard, the way it was from the factory (replacing the sagged factory springs). That way you do get some lift for your money. |

yeh annt
i think ARB are havin ya on
i am 95% sure that u can get a 2" lift with out any castor corr
shouldnt effect the car too badly
and i reckon thats a bit pricey too
1400's a fair bit for a minor lift
check out the tradin post
i seen lift kits for patrols brnd new but never used for only a few hundred bux evrything included |

These days it's difficult to quantify what is a 4" lift, I'm pretty sure the generic 4" lift is cool with DOT. |

I took stock suspenders from my GU wagon & gave em to my brother for his 92 GQ & it gave it a 2" lift & rides FAB, so area 54 was right in saying its probly saged 2-3 since then. I used caster plates for my 5" lift & drives like an FB holden cumfy & very relaxed. |
