Hi all,

Could somebody please tell me what is involved in a 140k service for a 4.2L GU wagon? I have been getting different quotes ranging from $120 up to $500. Nearly every mechanic I talk to tells me different things that are involved in this service. Some say standard oil and filter change only, some say oil and filters with valve clearances checked, some say all of this plus remove hubs for bearing work, etc, etc.

I have only recently bought the vehicle which has been logbook stamped every 5,000km since new. This is the first service i will be giving it. So if someone out there knows what Nissan's requirements for a 140k service, that would help me decide which mechanic is giving me the right advice. Thanks in advance.

did you get a service history if so it should be in the manual what is expected.

All else fails go to nissan and ask for a service manual and that will tell you what is required.

If you have just bought the truck i would be inclined just to replace every fluid possible and start fresh...

Going from memory...

Intermediate service every 5k or 10 k depending on your preference Oil changed, check over vehicle. Some place’s don't do filters for 5k only 10 k service cost approx $200

The minor service is every 20k approx $300 depending on air cleaners / other filters etc all of intermediate plus also should include repacking the front wheel bearings

Major services at 40k, 80k 120k 160k (every 40k you get the picture) all the above plus all fluid changed (radiator, diffs, brake fluid etc). Nissan can quote up to $1,200 for a major, some places do it for around $750

If you have just got the vehicle it is worth the money to get the wheel bearings checked, and filters changed even if they are not due. I purchased a 2 year old 4.2TD Gu with 41,000 on the clock, and 40k service had been done. Took it to my mechanic and found the oils had not been changed and bearings were bone dry.... $500 is cheaper than repairs or inconvenience.
