im lookin at extending my shackles on my 45. i put some new shocks on and now they are longer than my springs drop (i also wouldnt mind a bit more hight) if i were to go 2-3 inches longer would my castor be all whacked or would i be able to manage without fixing it? and is that too much length on those shackles?
also another quick question, im gonna run 60 series axles and it appears that the front diff pumpkin has been rotated a bit (only just noticable), was that standard on 60 series or has it been modded? when i chuck them in ill fix the castor problem.
thanks

do u realise that extended shackles are illegal?
i rang up vicroads and a few engineers this arvo all said they are illegal and engineers wont even engineer em
i was gonna go extended shackles but now i dont wanna touch
the cops wil give yashit if ya sitin up high
plus they also prematurely wreck the leaf |

nope but i dont think most my truck is legal, specially for a P plater. i think the leafs are pretty much gone anyway, the thing hasnt been looked at since it was built. but bring on the coils in a month or 2. i dont drive it much, only drive it on weekends. catch the train to work during the week, so its only there for fun.
how come overkill engineering and other places make them? is it intended for trail use only?
i might just do a little extension and claim it as how it came out of the factory. |

i cant understand how other places make em either
i was really interested in a set of 2"ext shackles from superioir engineering
they were only 170 for a pair!
being a p Plater ur really pushing it
ur a magnet for cops already with out any hardcore mods
just watch yaselgf |

yeah thanks for the warning mate, i know how bad it can be. i had a shitty old corolla, and 2 weeks after i got my license it got canaried, i wasnt doin anything wrong, was just a quiet night and i was on the road, and Bang, coppers stung me. fair enough, it was a heap of shit. but ive seen worse, like a guy who lost his fuel cap, so he stuffed a rag in there. kinda look like a big molotov cocktail. |

When you jack up the Chassis and the Axle is a at full drop. The Shackles should be exactly 90 degrees or a few degrees less. |

Is it true you guys in Vic only need one pink slip as long
as you keep it regoed?? Or has that changed?
That is the only thing that stops me going crazy is the damn yearly
pink slips. Doesn't that mean you could put whatever you want on
your rig and just swap it back once you get the 7 day defect
notice from the coppers?
Cause presumably come rego time, you don't need the dreaded
inspection?
Heaps of trucks run shackles in NSW. Almost every modified hilux
has a set. You just need to find a leanient inspection place. |

I think you will find that 75 series rears will give you about 15mm extra length if you just want to go little longer |

true dat
once the truck is regoed your sweet. no yearly inspections just pay the reg and thats it.
only need to get another road worthy etc if caught by rta, cops etc.
i didnt know about the yearly inspections in other states that sucks |

thanks for the feedback fellas. im gonna buy those superior shackles, just for the front. coz im converting the rear to coil. i can gain 40mm of shackle in the fully compressed position then when it drops away i gain 205mm of shackle! so itll sit not quite an inch higher at rest, but have better travel, and use up more shock. plus if i do have to get it engineered, i might aswell have something worth the effort. |

I believe that he is talking about EXTENDED (longer) not EXTENDABLE (or hinged) shackles. |

it doesnt matter anyway, probably not gonna do either option now, just get coils all round. the only reason i wanted to do something was coz i put a set of rear shocks on the front, which made the shock pretty much compressed at normal ride height. might just get some longer shock hoops. |
