First of, Great site. A place I have always wanted to visit.

Now the problem, I have a scout with an sd33t and am trying to find some options for trannys. I have a four speed hooked to an SAE #4 bellhousing. What is in your trucks?? Picks please!! Is there a five speed that could go that engine?? Any gear ratio info??

I am also looking for info with your style of sd33t and the larger 4.2L engine. As I understand it, your engines had many updateds that we did not see here. Our last year for the engine was 1980.

Thank you for your time, #Onfire Oiler

Two gearboxes were allicated to the MQ Patrol, the F4w81A ( 4 speed) or the FS5W81A (5 speed) ratios are as follows...
F4W81A
4th..........1.000:1
3rd..........1.449:1
2nd..........2.157:1
1st...........3.519:1
Reverse....4.181:1

FS5W81A
5th..........0.825:1
4th..........1.000:1
3rd..........1.440:1
2nd..........2.370:1
engine with turbo
1st..........3.897:1
Reverse...4.267:1
engine without turbo
1st..........4.222:1
reverse...4.622:1

Two transfers are also availiable, the T130A and the T100L
Ratios are......
T130A
High.........1.000:1
low...........2.220:1

T100L
high..........1000:1
low...........2.074:1

The T130A is installed on both the 4 & 5 spd boxes
The T100L is installed ONLY on the 4 spd boxes fitted to the "ute or canvas top" models.
hope this helps

The T100L case also came out in the LWB Patrols fitted with the L28 & 4 speed combination.

That does help alot. How tuff are those five speeds and the t case to go with it?? Are lower gears offerd for the transfers? What bellhousing pattern is used? Is there a place to go and purches a used box in good condition?? Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks, oiler

Both the 4spd & the 5 spd are pretty tough boxes as are both transfers. Quite a few 4X4's have been repowered with much larger motors,IE: 350 chev, 400 chev, 351 ford (pos !) god I hate plords ! The drive train has handeld it well.
I have seen the earlier boxes (pre1980) fall apart under load from the stock motor, throttle abuse was a factor in that too !
As for lowergearing...... how low do you want to go, "rockcrawler" gears are readily availiable and are relativly simple to change. forget all about road speed tho !!!
Availibility of the 4 spd box is easy while the 5spd is somewhat hard to find but certainly not impossible, rebuilding either boxes is a fairly simple task for some-one that has a few mech skills, takes about a day from go to wo and the bearings cost around the $160.00 aud for the box and add around the $80.00 aud for the transfer bearings.
The biggest differance between the petrol motor and diesel motors is the location of the gearbox/transfer, in the diesel powered patrol the geagbox/transfer sits 3 inches further back than the petrol combination, the firewall is usually "massaged" to allow the fitting of say a V8 chev to a diesel unit with some addaptor kits while other kits compensate for this difference.
hope this helps

You can't get lower transfer case gears for the MQ/K patrols, unfortunately
