What are the rules you guys use for your competitions?

Is it time based?
Are their cones to layout the courses?
What are the penilties for backing up, rooling over, etc?

So is this what you guys have been doing? How has it been working for you? Is there anything you would change?

"Ok, This is my proposal. Do with it what you will.

1. 3 Minute time limit per truck per course (subject to change)

2. The lowest score at the end of the day wins.

3. Most points that can be scored on a obstacle = 50 points

4. DNF = 50 points

5. Outside assistance for rollovers = 20 points

6. Hit a flag/bunting/peg = 10 points

7. Drive outside the course = 15 points

8. No forward progress for 10 seconds = 2 points

9. Reversing = 2 points ( plus stopping points)

10. Rollover and continue without assistance = 10 points

11. Slowest time to complete the obstacle without going over the time limit to be the tie breaker.
"

After the last round I have a few ideas to streamline the rules and make them more workable for the RC scale trucks.

I'll have a stab at them today and post up my changes later.

Those were some suggestions made fairly early in the process.

The last meet proved that the proposed rules had been concocted prior to any live test. Laughing We know there were some teething problems but this is the best way to solve them.

Some notes that JK and I have been dicussing are:

1. We need to award lots of points for making it through each 'gate' so that penalty points are deducted from this. ie 50 points per gate
2. Highest score at the end of the course wins.
3. Reversing points became too hard to track. Need to define reverse as being 1 vehicle length to allow unpenalised small reverses or make the track less reliant on reverse.
4. Boundary offences need to be more serious. It should not be acceptable to 'drive over' a peg just because you've already hit it.
5. Time limits should be set generously so that the emphasis is on driving the course well, not fast. Time limits should be set prior to event, therefore course needs to be set prior to event.
6. The 'Stop' or 'No forward progress' penalty needs to be explored more.

These are just some ideas so everyone is welcome to comment.

JK,
Maybe we (you me and Matt) might discuss it a bit more and take on-board everyones comments before posting a draft copy up here.

Yeah good idea. We are well on the way to a good set of rules that are modelled on 1:1 crawling comps but are better suited to RC scale trucks.

Any suggestions for improvement are most welcome.

Guys,
I agree that the time limit should be ample to drive the set course!
and also to make it less of a need to drive it like ya stole it!
The reverse rule i feel should be that you can reverse upto one or one and half truck lengths before a penalty is applied.(according to track difficulty).
Also the penalty for driving over a peg after hitting it should be large enough to discourage the behaviour!

Matt.
PS hope this helps!

Matt, you are tapping into our minds here... Ad and I have been discussing exactly that...

We are almost done with the new rules and scoring. It should be a little better balanced for the next comp with better driving encouraged and less penalties for manoeuvring within the course width.

Flags and out of bounds will be heavily penalised and the worst of the lot will be repositions (limited to about 12" or one truck width / length of the original position).

We will also have +ve points for each gate passed with penalties being -ve points eroding your +ve point tally.

The time limit will only be there to keep the comp flowing at a reasonable rate, not to place an unnecessary time-frame on the course.
