hey guys,
i am getting a death wobble in my bundera between 65 and 70km/h, and it is huge. it goes away when u accelerate hard, or brake.
the whole transmisson vibrates and swings the gearstick from side to side.
i'm running 35's, but it does it with my 31's as well. the steering dampener has seen better days, but i think it is more too it than just that.
what is the deal with bushes. i am not hugely mechanically minded, but several people have suggested i might have worn bushes. what do they do? how do i tell if they are worn and how hard/expensive are they to get/replace?
cheers,
Ben |

Could be the bushes, fairly simple to replace and cheap aswell!
If you look at your diff housing you will see 2 arms running back parallal with the chassis, the bushes are the rubber bits where these arms attach both to the diff and to the chassis rail!
Hope that makes some sort of sense!
Also, check the engine mounts/ gearbox mounts as they may be worn, when you are at cruising speed there is little or no TORQUE, this will allow the engine and gearbox to swing and shack, when you are accelerating HARD it causes the engine and gearbox to push hard against one mount and eliminates the wobble, also when you are braking you are most like pressing the clutch in causing NO drive to the drivetrain and as a result eliminates the wobble!
To check the mounts, pop the bonnet and rev the engine, all engines will torque up slightly (move left to right) but it will be worse if it worn mounts, if you dont know how much the engine should move normally find a mate with a similar vehicle say, hilux and have a look at how much it moves!
This may not be the cause but it is another thing to eliminate! |
