So here is the deal. I don't want to compete with these things, I just want to be able to play on the rocks when the big toys break. When I tear my Jeep to pieces, I want to be able to bring out the little toys. The clod seems to be the cheapest of the sort to wheel. The traxxis seems to come next. Is there any other ones I should look at? Also, how do you guys get them to crawl at such low speeds? I want mine to be able to do that as well.

fourwheelin started a thread(how much and where do i get one) or something like that. I have put in that which ones are good and how much.
The clod is e real winner but are hard to find now .The TXT1 is a great crawler straight from the box its made by the same company as the Clodbuster.
To make these things crawl you just use different gearing like your full size jeep. You may have to buy a cj8 body for whatever you buy to match your full size.
Also the electronic speedy has alot to do with making it go slow.A good speedy lets you crawl wthout overheating or lurching forward. The Novak Super rooster is the way to go.
Cheers

Yeah we were all doing it for a bit of fun too.....a while ago. It's addictive.
The only real capable crawler out of the box is the Tamiya TXT-1, and it just so happens to be the only one still on the market in Australia. You can get a Clod off E-Bay (there's one on there now) for less than $400 but be aware that you need to do a bit of work to get it crawling. The TXT-1 is about $750 plus radio gear and a good electronic speed controller.
Different motors and different gearing can mean the difference between a go-fast truck and a crawler....but there are heaps of other mods you could do to each one too. I'm guessing you want to go wheeling with it right ??
Take a good look at the TXT-1, it's a current product and most hobby shops will have it and also access to it's spares, cause you're bound to break stuff

Sorry Jamie.
One of the guys on our RadioRockcrawler list bought it.
There aren't many getting around and I wouldn't recommend you hold your breath for the next one to appear on E-Bay.
There is a guy selling on E-Bay, new Clods for $145 US. That'll cost you about $350-$380 by the time you get it here. He's in Hong Kong. If you search on Clodbuster available to Australia I'm sure you'll see one of his ads. |
