i am about to assemble my new diff, and i stuffed up when i pulled it apart, by not counting the turns of the adjusters before i pulled out the centre. i am reusing the gears, and the centre housing, but putting a detroit locker in the centre (unlike most detroits, the chev 14bolt is deemed strong enough to be able to reuse the housing, instead of completely replacing it). any tips or suggestions for reassembling it? i was thinking of using grease to try and mark the contact patch? anyone local to me want to do it? thanks

have you replaced the pinion bearings? if not, and if they are in good shape, then adjust the carrier bearings for correct preload and backlash, the pattern should be ok. grease doesn't give a good contact pattern - use prussian blue, red lead, or, believe it or not cheap lipstick works pretty well, the darker the colour you can get the better.
