Some 4wds made before 92 don't have carseat bolts fitted as standard what some people do is just drill a hole and put the bolt in yourself but just remember its your kids life your playing with. I went to a proper child restraints joint and had a bar fitted to the rear of the car (83 swb patrol) which is removalable when not required and is legal in your state. These are the people i went with I think they are in melbourne 1300 728 363 Littles child restraints might not be the right number but check in the yellow pages for the right one all for under $200.
Hope this is of sum help

I have an 88 shortie GQ and bolted the child harness into a bolt hole in the rear floor. I had it checked and they said the bolt hole is strong enough but the rear seat is not designed to take the belt load on that angle. I had to purchase a child safety bar which bolts onto each wall and lets the harness run paralel. the bar takes up a bit of room but at least you know your kids are relatively safe |

cant remember exacly how much, around $80-$100
I picked it up from macks auto its just a car parts store. He is also approved to check child safety seat instalation. Id probably call any baby suppliers in your area and they will be able to tell you which car shop is able to show you the bar |

You may be ok if you do the holes yourself, but to be totally sure you will need to get it complianced.
For my Bronco I think I paid about $100 for the bar and $100 to get it complianced. |

That's my problem now! Trying to design something around the child restraint point. Found a decent sorage unit for the right price but it will cover the child restraint point.

In our GQ wagon drilled and fixed a point behind the bench using a decent sized bolt. I hear the concerns about the top of the seat being under load but thought that between the 2 restraints - seat belt lap & restraining strap there would be sufficient anchorage to resist lateral movement in impact?... |

Once rear storage unit goes in you lose that advantage :( |
