Hi All,

So I have my newly acquired 1992 NH GLS (yes, with adjustable dampers too...) in totally stock condition. If this was YOUR Pajero, what would you install/upgrade 1st, to get it ready for beginner 4wding?

Also, I've understood that various waterproofing jobs around the engine and components need to be done: just because a snorkel is installed the engine isn't really water-crossing-safe. Can anyone please give some pointers on what needs to be done to waterproof my car?

Thanks all.

Ahhh the joys of starting new....

- Suspension lift 2" many kits available TJM XGS, Tough Dog etc
- Wind torsion bars up, see tech section on how to do this
- Some decent tyres, i would suggest 31 x 10.5 x 15/16 tyres maybe BFG All terrians or Cooper ST's they are good for use both on and off road, if you happy with current tyres just go buy some muddies for fun off the road!!! BTW you can fit 33" tyres but its a squeeze!

In regard to waterproofing, i have a diesel 2.5L and i just make sure the fuse box is sealed and snorkel is the only way to get air in to engine and go for it. Not sure with petrols???

Good luck, post some pics!

Yeah, heheh. Finally bit the bullet. But wait - next year I'd buy another one, just for hard core use....

Thanks for the tips. A few questions, since you have practically the same model I do:
- what bull bar do you have? Why no winch?
- are you satisfied with the TJM XGS?

I've seen the FAQ Bible on Mitsu's, but not being very well versed in auto mechanics, couldn't really understand why I'd want to 'wind up' the torsion bars, and, how to do it. Would really appreciate some brief explanation.

Yeah, I kinda felt like Bridgestone AT 31" tyres, just in case I needed impromptu diversions. I'd get another set of Mongrels on steel rims for more deliberate journeys. I've read a lot on comparing Bridgestone ATs vs. Cooper STs. It seems the argument between the 2 are quite balance - so I'd go for the cheaper one!
