G'day guys - i've seen a few guys do this inverted shock mod to the reas of their leaf sprung hiluxs and was just wondering what the benefits are of doing this??? does it help to give better flex since the top mounts are triangulated or something?
Cheers, |

nah m8 gives you sweet F.A. really... just better to have them that way with long springs cuz the shocks dont move as much when layed over, hense getting more travel outa them..however bad bodyroll.. you see ppl with them layed over on standard setups n i think to myself wtf |

Inverting the rear shocks will change the pivot point of the diff, so they will improve flex over stock shock setup.
It should give you 2 or 3 inches of extra travel, just as long as you fit longer shocks and if you don't fit large offset rims, the inside wall of the trye will rub on the chassis when at full up travel. |

the shock dosent give ya the flex... its a combo of springs shackles and shocks.. i had 2inch springs, standard shackles and shock mounts. laying my shocks over could not give me anymore travel with this setup..look at it...
thats maxing it out, check the shacle angle.. cant get any more out of it if i wanted to. |

yeh but if you were runnin a rear leaf out of a ifs lux or extended shackels you would have far greater flex then that, the only issue would be the tyres rubbin on the chassis more. |

wow thats the set up i've wanted, since i started gettin keen on the more extreme side of offroad, i reckon that set up with a rear ladder bar to stop axle tramping, so the leaf pack can be real light would be ideal, it would give all round awsome leaf flex. good job. how bigger did you need to make ur rear shocks |

ride is terriffic.. awesome... feels like coils cuz the shocks dont move much with them being layed over.
Iused the same leghth shock and on full artic it dosent go anywhere near toppin or bottomin the shock, its because they are layed over they dont move as much...
that setup is better onroad and off over standard.. however highly illegal. i dont need track bar cuz i left the bottom long leif in to limit up travel so the 35's dont hit the tray, and also acts as a ladder bar and stops the spring wrappin up at the same time.. dosent limit down travel.
cheers chris |

The shocks are layed over too far and thats why you get bad body roll. Spread the top mounts out a bit and that will fix it a bit. |

The tops are way too close together. You aren't gaining anything from placing them so close together, as said, it only causes body roll. |

its doent matter where ya put them.. but laying them over does give alot more bodyroll due to the shock not doing its job and moving. |

the more vertical you can keep them the better

This was when i had 200mm extended shackles (illegal) in the rear without the invert kit.
This is with standard length 90mm shackles (legal) with the invert kit fitted.
The extended shackles allow the spring to droop more but the standard shock setup inhibits the travel. I am getting the same amount of droop now with a legal setup as i was before with an illegal setup. |

dude ya shock setup is illegal aswell, got done by dot.. your not aloud to have them like that unless you have an engineers report stating otherwise.. thats direct from coppers and backed by dot. |

thats quite a bit more flex. what sort of beefing up did you have to do, i didn't think dot would like the hole welding to chassis thing. |

The tabs that are welded to the top bar were beefed up. I had an extra peice of bar rolled to suit the cross bar, to which the tabs were added. This means that if the shocks decide to move, all the stress isn't placed on the welds that hold the tabs on. |
