guys my mrs brother is about to buy an 05 4.2td wagon and everyone of the 4.2s we have looked at the rear trailing arms have some sort of bracket or somethimg on them. just wondering if anyone knows what there for? the 3ltrs dont have them.

What do you mean by brackets? Mine has extra bits on it, not sure if you would call them brackets, but I've never seen them on any other vehicle Confused

mine dont have anything and its a 1999 GU TD42 but my mates 2002 4.8 has them! i think it is soemthing to do with ABS! cause the bracket things are for the abs lines to run down to the disc!

my 03 has em

a bloke told me what they were and i cant exactly remember but it was something along the lines of extra vibration damping.

Yeah, mine are not so much "brackets" as they are weights of some sort, so may well be vibration dampners

Strengthening? my 01 doesn't have any and they bend quite easy.. Superior engineering arms have some sort of strengthening on them.

vibration dampers of some kind.

All the 6cyl GU's seem to have them (except the utes).

if where talking about the same thing my 98 4.5 has the brackets but also a rubber cylinder attached to the right and left rear arms! allso not sure what there for? maby sound deadening??

i have also heard vibration dampning, but yeah got 3rd's on there now and now vibration issues...
