just wondering if anyone has got the superior super flex arm on there gq and how do they go?

For road driving they are like normal drop arms.
For wombat holes you pick up heaps more flex.
For very steep vertical climbes they don't improve flex because there isn't enough pressure being put on the bushes.

Conclusion. If you are going to get drop arms then look no further.

have you got some longer shocks yet?? i loved the pics they really show a big difference, even with the maxed out shocks. we found in some situations you could actually use over 15" travel shocks (50% more than the BIGGEST currently available for nissans). Procomps are ~10.5" travel and Tdogs are ~10"travel. This equates to heaps more travel measured at the wheel.

Nice work. Did you have a 4-5" lift?

If you are considering getting longer shocks, I might be able to help you out with some flexy coils so you can make the most of the extra flex.

iv got a set in my gq. iv extened my shock towers by 2 inchs and im running 80 series efs extreme shocks in the front. the guys at superior worked out what shocks i should run. it was either efs or tuff dog. efs give more travel tuff dog a better ride. havnt had a chance to test them yet going to glasshouse on sunday.

1MadEngineer - Sorry i havent managed to get longer shocks yet, Ive got a mate that has some old rancho 9000's that I will try (They look to be about 80 - 100mm longer than current) and see how that goes. I was thinking about having a chat to Wizard about their fox shock kit for the Patrol, from memory they have some decent travel shocks...but im no expert on them.

4WD Stuff - Yea, its a 4" EFS spring, 'might' think about changing coils down the line, can you do airbags for the rear ? Been checking out Hobzee's airbags lately thinking that might be the go for me.

Yom - cspqg is right, i havent extended bumpstops at all, but i need to. The utes got a 304 in it, and the front drive shaft manages to contact the exhaust on big bumps etc. Thinking of using the tried and tested 100 series bump stops and see how that goes. Not even sure if they are any longer than the orig fronts and this stage.

Once i get these ranchos from my mate, ill do another test at the same spot and see what happens. Ill document it on the blog.

I do sell the same bags as Hobzee. You can sure get a 4" lift with these air bags but you wouldn't get any more travel then a 2" lift. That is using the bags that Hobzee uses.
You can get more expensive but lessor quality bags, though still very good, which will give you the 4" lift and increased wheel travel. As I said, more expensive.

i can't wait to see your results! just check, but i think the wizard kit only uses 10" travel shocks, so there is no great benefit from off the shelf turddogs. When i get some time in the next month or so i will finish testing on a set of 14"-16" set of shocks to suit GQ's they will be done specifically to suit guys running the new arms and good springs!!

These are firestone bags on my GU with good flex results. The shocks are disconnected for I have to respec the lengths to maximise travel.

As you can see the left side bag is not at full extension.

Yes the Firestone Air bags are the expensive ones. Not quite as good quality as the Boss bags but still very good. At the price they cost with the fittings, most people stick with coils.

How much did you pay for the setup?

I can't help with Koni's that long.

There is some 12 way adjustable shocks coming onto the market in the next couple of weeks that are 800mm extended. 41mm bore, big shaft, steel adjuster etc.

The valves and line I managed to pick up from a customer for nothing.

Yes the bags came from Trucksprings.

Considering putting in cab controls to adjust the pressure. Can pick up gauge and switches from US for $129 plus shipping. Not sure if required ATM.

The valves and line I managed to pick up from a customer for nothing.

Yes the bags came from Trucksprings.

Considering putting in cab controls to adjust the pressure. Can pick up gauge and switches from US for $129 plus shipping. Not sure if required ATM.

Quoting $450 is a bit unreasonable when it can't be repeated by the next person. You did well though and I like your setup.

Why cant it be repeated?

The bags still cost around that delivered from US and if someone can fab the brackets they have the set up for approx the same cost.

we're ready to buy a full 6" kit now for a GU ute

no probs mate. i just spoke to a supplier about getting some shocks as a test set. I want to do this right so i am getting a heap of valving at the same time to play with. I really want to develop this setup, so guys will only ever have to buy 1 pair of shocks ever again!! then you can rebuild them or revalve them to suit any lift or application. Yeah they will be dearer than off the shelf crappers! but i know that many are getting really sick of spending money over and over. The idea is to use 2.5" x 12" or 14" travel threaded body shocks. this allows infinate adjustability, plus the ability to use the shocks as pure coilovers at any point later on. You can also add a remote res to the shocks as well. I have also designed a patented mount for them which is really cool, and allows total user adjustability.

coming from a airbag background i personally wouldnt use BOSS airbags over firestone, if boss is still just rebadged chassitech gear(aka big red compressor =dc5000) they arent very good at all.id be looking at something like a contitech triple convluted bag, or a slam specialites bag. Espesh if it was bag only no coil.

Please explain about the slam specialites bag. Do they have flex like the Firestone bags, 14" of travel. Who do I call?
