ok so my cooler for the auto is being fitted as we speak, pretty sure its off a disco (forgot to take a pic) cylinderical type about 3" or so dia, and fits the width of a fender radiator - mounted in front of though.

Question, never had an auto but been wheeling with a few and have noted theat their autos do get hot at times, should i be looking at running dual coolers? probably don't want to fork out for a fancy custom alloy number.

motor will be 4.4 V8, running 35's.

cheers

I'm running a fresh 3.5 with a ZF and VC, and occasionally 31's. Never had the auto light turn on, it been a great to me. And I have the cylindrical type cooler across my radiator.

If your going to use a second hand cooler just make sure it's not blocked and clean inside.

The Owner's Manual does suggest that if the light does turn on (hot auto) select a higher gear/lower rpm.

Good Luck

cheer bud, its a new cooler, so should be ok in regards to blockages, no fancy lights for me though - maybe a gauge at some point.

I am using a re-cored disco radiator for mine, has the cooler in the radiator as well as the pipe cleaner in front of the rad.

just another thing i read somewhere bout the ZF. they say it doesn't pump oil to the cooler in either N or P and that it just sits there and gets hot, they said about 15 mins at idle before it started to overheat. I can't confirm this, but thought it maybe worth while following up...

Sam with the ZFs we ran in the buggies we never had a problem with heat.
We did run after market coolers but small in size. One of the old buggy autos is now in Harleys County with a factory cooler and seems to get along fine. You will be fine with your set up mate.
