Gday all im new to this forum, as i have never owned my own 4x4

As the subject says im buying a 1981 hj45 is wat i told it is, but after looking on the net i could only find 47 model

Ive been told that one of the front hubs need to be replaced (is that expensive)
and something to do with the manual fuel pump is letting in air, o-ring need to be replaced. other than that the car is in good nick, beside a lil bit of rust and the old wooden tray needing some attention.

It bouncy and loud, but i no thats what there all like.

Just want to no what u all think about them and if there worth a buy

im only paying $1000 for it as its coming from my dads mate who has no use for it becouse he sold his farm.

One more thing, is there much work that needs to be done to it to start taking it of road or to make it more more reliable?

Sounds alright for the dollars. Old H motor is pretty reliable I hear.

As far as going off road is concerned, you could head straight out and have a good time in standard trim and I would recommend that you do before paying money for mods. Figure out how hard core you want to go and then go for it. Try to do things in preparation for the next mod so that you don't do things twice. Eg, make sure you pick tyres and size to suit the lift you want and try to do them at the same time. There is heaps of info on suspension and lockers in the forums for 40 series.

To help it with a bit of power, give it a snorkle and decent exhaust. I got my snorkle made at exhaust shop using 3inch mandrel bent steel and just got snorkle heads from truck shop. Best and cheapest way for 40 series, looks good too.

Good luck.

Bog standard your truck will go down that hill. A decent set of tyres will help you go up, along with a decent navi or dome driving experience. You will be surprised at how well a stock 40/45 will go off road. As i said, with some driving, find out what you're missing for the hills and tracks you're trying. If you lack grip, get some tyres/lockers. Clearance and suspension flex, you need suspension/barwork.
