hey guys im upgrading my 28x9x15s to some bfg 32x11.5.15s and ive been told the steering box might not be up to scratch, also its makin so metalic like scratinching noise from the steering column, anyone know roughly what it might be or just take it to the mechanic and get him to check it out, i realise ive been vague but i cant put my finger onto what it sounds like

cheers guys

Metallic like scratching?

If you can't hear it outside when someone turns the wheel, I'd say it is the horn. They attach with a spring loaded thingmamejig which connects to a round copper plate so there is always a connection when the wheel goes round-e-round-e-round.
Could well be just needed a wee dollop of stuff. (but I don't know what stuff - maybe graphite grease?)

When pulling your steering wheel off, make sure you don't punch yourself in the face!!!

Yep its the horn contact doovalacky. I've owned a 91 lancer and now a 92 triton and they've both done it. Is it di-electric grease your thinking of? I think thats what it is.

Yep...use di-electric grease. I've have that happen to me on more than one vehicle. Some di-electric grease on the horn contacts in the steering wheel always took care of it.
