are you sure it is completely stuffed, you may be able to clean it up? mine used to pack up every time i went out in the mud, they are located in a crap spot. the brush assembly gets full of mud and eventually pushes the brushes off the rotor rings and no charging after that. after disassembling and cleaning out the back end the fifth or so time i gave up and fitted a 120A falcon unit at the top - have to keep the old one on for the vac pump tho! heaps better for the twin batts too!! |

i have pics but can't seem to post them on this forum. a falcon is a large sedan sold in oz, they are very common, so 120A alternator 1995 car was $30.
i had to weld up a pivot and the reaction arm to the power steering bracket. relocate the power steering reseviour to the air filter body to make room for the alt. the alt is exposed to big vibration that far from the crank axis, but it seems to be able to handle it. the alt has been on for maybe a year or more, and been on a few trips up north on heavy corrugations, so it seems to be an ok spot for an alt. feeds a heavy duty batt and a 150A deep cycle. i've run a much heavier cable to handle the extra juice, as i found the higher currents freaked out the old paj wiring cause of the high volt drop .[/img] |
