Vale - John Walker

It was with a sad heart that I today heard that John Walker (Black Label) has lost his long battle with cancer and passed away on Sunday August 3. John was one of the most active memebers of the New Zealand Comp scene and the Auckland 4x4 Club. he was also a top bloke.

I first met John when he visited Australia for the Outback Challenge some years ago and I was lucky enough to share a car with him while we covered this event and we instantly became friends. I later travelled to NZ to cover a Denny's Winch Challenge and John's enthusiasim was still as strong despite his ongoing battle.

We later had the privilage to feature John’s comp Hilux in Overlander magazine. As an aircraft engineer by trade, the work on that truck was second to none.

The NZ comp fraternity owe a lot to John thanks to the input and passion he has had in the sport there as a competitor, official and event organiser. The NZ 4x4 scene and the world as a whole will be a lesser place with out the kind heart of John Walker.

RIP.

I had the honour of meeting John when he was out here for the OBC.

A great bloke with enthusiasm for our sport.

This is v. sad news Matt, please pass on our condolance to John's family. We had the pleasure of meeting him @ the obc, he had such a passion for life and 4w driving with a determination to make the most of every day.....
